passing along info again via Afganistan

Using the internet and Pauly's Blog to pass information along and to help keep taxpayers aware of any issues, actual or perceived in the BOS office. As all e-mail (with a few exceptions) is public information, I thought I would pass this on.

I believe the interviewing and hiring of a secretary is the responsiblity of selectmen, unless the Board has voted to give this responsibility to Mr. Ritter. There is also a simple solution to the many forms of electronic word processing programs, free download of Open Office. The Board of selectmen could always do what I once suggested, purchase a computer for the office for selectmen to use, to view emails to selectmen, to have the programs loaded onto to allow a selectmen to go into the office and read any document in electronic form. As a volunteer, that is someone who decided on his own to run for an elected office, I take the responsibility to keep up with the many electronic venues out there and to have a basic working knowledge of them and yes sometime to purchase them for ease of doing the work I volunteered to do.

I was not able to open the town meeting warrant. I am not pleased with receiving these things in the eleventh hour. Now I will not be able to have any time to consider these before our meeting. The capital planning meeting minutes came in a differentl format and I was able to access them. When are we going to hire a new secretary for our office? What is holding this up? This is long overdue and would prevent Jeff from having to do all these things on his own. He has plenty to do without doing secretarial work too. Just my thoughts!

Here is the final warrant, complete except for reordering of articles, and except for the report from the Capital Planning Committee (attached), which recommends certain of these articles be removed from the warrant. We will take this up, along with the town charges “green sheet” at the Monday meeting.
Hope you are having a great weekend!

  1. Jeff R does not have the authority to hire, why haven't the selectmen acted on hiring a new person for the selectmen's office? VW seems alittle hostile in her email. Not the selectmen's offices fault she can't open an email. Why is it I have never had a problem opening an email. Thanks again Jeff for keeping us informed.

  2. The Admin. Asst. job in the selectmen's office is an important position and I hope the selectmen do not rush to fill the position for the sake of filling it quickly. Lets hope they hire someone who is highly qualified, punctual, and will bring professionalism and experience to the office. It should also be someone who works well with others and is there simply to do the best job possible, not to aid one faction over another.

    1. Perhaps, like Mr. Ritter, the BOS should hire from outside of the town limits. I agree that no family or political ties should be involved with this hiring.
