OMG OML Decisions

There has been some discussion about Article 8 on the STM warrant for Thursday November 15th (TOMORROW!!).  Article 8 is a request for an investigation by the Attorney General into four incidents in Templeton:

The purchase of 252 Baldwinville Rd…$700,000

The Casella Settlement…$369,000

Chapter 93 Acts of 2000

WWTP lawsuit and Writs of Attachment… $10-15 million

The Attorney General’s website also has a wealth of information about the Open Meeting Law (OML). There is a way to search for OML decisions rendered by community.

I was poking around on this website the other day and noticed two OML decisions had been rendered for the Town of Templeton. I have uploaded them for your reading pleasure.

The first OML decision is in reference to multiple OML complaints filed by Virginia Wilder... before the Recall election. You might want to refresh your memory by watching the recording of the Sept 26, 2011 Executive Session .

The second OML decision is in reference to a complaint filed by former Chairman Robert Columbus.

I like the transparency of the Attorney General’s website. Just a quick review of the volume of OML complaints, you come to realize Templeton’s situation is not unique. People throughout the Commonwealth of Massachusetts want transparency in government. It doesn’t seem like too much to ask. Let’s hope the Attorney General’s office will be willing to work on the four issues in Templeton, if Article 8 is successfully passed.
If you think the issues outlined in Article 8 deserve further review, please vote YES on Article 8. Let’s work together so the mistakes of the past can be corrected. Hope to see you tomorrow night!

My opinions…supported by FACTS ! ! !

  1. I have a question. How come these two letters are addressed to two attorneys that do not currently work for the town? How come they are not addressed to the person who filed the complaint?

  2. That is the way your state government works, very slow. K&P was town attorney when the AG finally got aroud to this complaint. It was explained to me by that office that due to shortage of staff attorneys, there is a back log. What matters to me is I and the other board members were NOT wrong and I followed correct procedure. Apparently Mr. Columbus felt the procedure was wrong. What I thought was wrong was how the town coordinator at the time and some memebers of the select board were doing things. I will let the good people of Templeton to judge wether I worked for their betterment or not.

  3. Can these four investigation sections be broken down to seperate items on Town floor?

    1. No, I don't think so. We as Citizens 4 Templeton, have this on the town meeting warrant, so the people of our town can vote for this question or against it. Some of these questions have been looked at before, but you know, you only see what some one else, shows you. I feel that there was a great deal of interfearence, from parties, that did not want these problems looked at. It is at the point that, as a town these matters have to be delt with. The cost of not doing anything to reach the truth will be to high. I am not going to stick the rest of my town folk, with someone elses mess. Our debt is already high, why should we be responsable for the debt we did not cause? Because the people we hired, did not protect us as a town? WE CAN NOT LET THIS STAND! WE HAVE TO DRAW A LINE IN THE SAND, AND WE HAVE TO DO IT NOW. OUR TOWN NEEDS TO HEAL, BUT WE HAVE TO CLEAN OUT THE CUT, BEFORE IT CAN. VOTE YES ON ARTICLE 8, TOMORROW NIGHT, 7:00 NRHS AUDITORIUM, BEV.

    2. That is too bad since we all know how well the "all or nothing approach" has worked in Templeton. Four articles might have helped some of the finances in Town. Oh well...

    4. In the past when multiple items were placed on the same article they have failed, leaving all departments with no equipment for another year. If the articles had been split into four then town floor could support any or all of them. At least if some (if not all)of the investigations passed it would be better than getting nothing.
