Light and Water Meeting

Light and Water Meeting
April 9, 2013

Light and Water agendas for April 9, 2013

Well, it looks like that OML determination and educational video on the Open Meeting Law worked. A small victory for openness in government.

There may be an executive session between the Water meeting (6 pm start) and the Light meeting.  There isn’t a section for customer questions on the Water agenda. Gee, I wanted to know how much money the manager was going to expend on legal research for the fluoride citizen petitions. Nothing about water mains on Baldwinville Rd.

Light Department Agenda –
Old Business:
Templeton wind turbine maintenance Update
Templeton Wind Turbine Cost Certification Update
Baldwinville Rd Reconstruction Update
2013 Electric rate Study Update

There is a section for Customer Comment & Questions.

In order to prepare for the meeting on Tuesday here are some links for suggested reading:

The documents above were obtained from the Internet. The GE Ice Throw document was referred to in the Gearbox Failure Investigation. The Risk Analysis of Ice Throw from Wind Turbines is referred to in the GE document.

I also have questions for the commissioners about legal expenditures for citizen petitions.

Ferriter Scobbo Rodolphe Invoice dated March 8, 2013

Rubin and Rudman Invoice dated March 21, 2013

Hope to see you there on the 9th!

  1. I guess the commissioners have purchased some votes with your TMLWP goldmine stash. Anyone hear about the 14% pay raises? I will try to get the facts and as always share, share, share. It would make good relations after all the hard work they did for all the wrong reasons!

  2. It is my belief that money spent on the fluoride question is illegal by municipal departments. Because it is a law that even if fluoride is voted out by town meeting the board of health can vote to add this poison right back in creating a ballot vote situation it is my opinion this makes it illegal for town departments to use our money to continue to poison us. When a ballot election becomes part of the process that is where things change concerning using municipal funds. Perhaps Mr. Robinson can give us a quick legal opinion on this matter? It is believed that the Office of Campaign and Political Finance theoretically upholds these laws. The Board of Health and the Light and Water may already have violated these rules.

  3. What right does the town have to put fluoride in my water if I don't want it? Fluoride is a drug and there is no doctor but Ron Daven and Dr. Brown who is controlling the dose and how often we get it. This shit needs to go.

  4. I am confused and cannot remember the facts! Hasn't the town already voted several times on the fluoride issue?

    1. If a citizen puts it on as a citizen's petition, then they can keep submitting year after year.

    2. The Massachusetts Department of Public Health prostitutes fluoride 24/7/365 days of the year and keeps its citizen's ignorant of the health problems associated with fluoride. We should never give in to being drugged without our consent with a known poison. Thanks to all who keep this issue front and center.

  5. JUST CURIOUS: I have noticed a big fresh water puddle in front of Cumberland Farms in East Templeton ALL WEEK, it is not melting snow. Just wondering if it is another job put off till Friday afternoon and into the weekend for overtime pay. There is NO DOUBT it has been seen and sure does look like a water main leak to me. 1. Anonymous 9:27, this will be interesting to watch. At this point nothing will surprise me. I don't know if cumbys has a cellar, it was probably built on a slab, so no water in the cellar. We will have to sit back and watch. Bev.

    2. Templeton puts fluoride in the water so that we can find leaks like the one in East Templeton. At least the water department found a use for this poison.

    2. It sounds like L&W answers all questions with a simple phone call but history has shown a FOIA is often needed. Open government pleases all.

  7. So lets let it blow and empty the tank, cause a flood and other damages, i can see the reasoning behind that. all week!
What say you commissioners? All wet!

  8. I hope no one gets hurt if a big sink hole develop. You know like a propane, gasoline, explosives truck were to drive over and colapse into the hole! And the commission have another executive session to hire a lawyer to see if they were responsible for the liability after they knew of the issue and planned to do nothing till another day!

  9. Why so much worry about fluoride? The people drinking bottle water have no clue what is in that water. But the push continues what a waste spend less time bitching and brush your teeth more SMILE

    1. As a Dental Hygienist I am insulted this article has come up again. The documentary Fluoridegate An American Tragedy that played on local cable is nothing but misinformation. Just because the head toxicologist for the EPA says his research shows fluoride is most likely both carcinogenic and mutagenic, as a dental hygenist we are taught fluoride is one of the top ten greatest health achievements of the twentieth century. I am confident that this article will be soundly defeated once again. Fluoride is both safe and effective. Fluoride is both safe and effective.

    2. No need to be insulted. There are people who think otherwise than you do. There's no harm in that, is there? Its their right to bring up issues for discussion at town meeting as many times as they want. If you do no agree, then simply vote no every meeting. I still don't know where I fall on the issue and I've read article after article on it and listened to debate at town meeting. I'm a college graduate and can process information pretty easily and objectively. Yet, I'm still on the fence as to where I stand on this. I do not blindly believe what the government tells us as it has been proven time and time again that it is not always the truth. So, in my opinion, the more we discuss these hot button issues, the more we can all come to a reasonable conclusion. If some people in town want a warning put on water bills for mixing with infant formula, then why not do it? What harm will come from that? If toothpaste companies now are marketing fluoride free toothpaste and there are warnings in other states about fluoride given to infants, then why not debate this issue a little more? What harm can come from discussion?

    3. Dear Dental Hygenist 4:28 If fluoride is so important what about all the kids on well water? If their parents don't take them to the dentist for fluoride treatments what then? Do your kids drink the town water, do you cook with it? or do you just use it to bathe and brush your teeth and flush the toilet? If it's so important does your office offer free fluoride to the children not on city water?

    4. I have well water and my child had flouride drops and then pills up until about 14. She has beautiful teeth and not a single cavity at age 17. This was recommended by both her local dentist and her local pediatrician. Both are very conscientious practitioners that are well respected and sought after in the local area.

    5. I respect everyones opinion on the flouride issue but believe that the flouride should not be forced upon people that do not want or need it. Who is prescribing how much flouride one should consume in a day? Who is monotoring how much flouride is being put into the water. What is the cost add the flouride? Do people with dentures need flouride? Should they have to pay for it or be forced to drink it? I am happy to have it come up for a vote again. I will be more than happy to vote no everytime it comes up. We are all welcome to our opinions without being insulted or becoming nasty because someone has a different opioion. Play nice...no bullying!

    6. If you are on the fence concerning fluoridation you may wish to read the book The Fluoride Deception by Christopher Bryson. This book which came out in 2006 gives the history of how fluoride came to be in our water supply. Mr. Bryson is from Ireland who at this time are in a huge debate about the use of fluoride in their water supply. I have many short videos and documentaries on fluoridation at may facebook site Templeton Mass Afa and hope anyone interested will spend some time there becoming informed.

    7. We also live where town water is not available and followed our dentist and pediatricians advice concerning fluoride drops. Unfortunately our daughter now has fluorosis of the teeth like 41% of children her age. It is unlikely that her teeth are the only thing effected. After watching the Documentary Fluoridegate An American Tragedy and hearing that the head toxicologist in our country believes that fluoride is both Carcinogenic and Mutagenic I do feel somewhat betrayed by the medical community.

  10. The theory behind the multi main problems in baldwinville last year was one break caused a system hammer and other weak spots erupted. That being known after that weekend and surely learning a great deal afterward would tend to make you/us think it would be wise to fix a problem prior to a much larger problem if we know about it!It seems they do know there is a problem! Fill your tubs now it could be a long weekend without water!

    1. Have you spoken to L&W Dave? Do they know what they are doing or do you know more than they do about the situation? Are they making the wrong decision to wait? Not being insulting because I admire your interest in helping the town out of the mess it's in and I encourage you to stay vigilant. Just wondering. I try to see the glass 1/2 full!

  11. Too bad the new L&W website doesn't have a section on the main page that they can post when there is info on water main breaks and/or power outages. It may be a better way to relay info to the customers than to wait for people to call the office individually or to post snotty comments on local blogs. Also, whomever is responsible for the content on the website may want to go back through it and check it again because there is text from the template still on there: "insert description here" kind of text. Maybe it shouldn't have been so rushed to go live until final sanity proofing was done. But at least there is now published info regarding their operations including a very interesting timeline. But, the web design leaves a lot to be desired.

  12. anon 527 has seen it there all week. one would think over a week it could or would have been taken care of. Unlass they didn't know of the leak!
I have not spoken to ron about it and my guess would be a tight lipped issue?
Most times when i ask it's, I don't want to talk about it now!
Things need to change in 2 departments in Templeton.
1 is the water and 2 is the light!

  13. Just for the record . I called Ron at the water dept. on Wednesday to report what i thought to be a leak do to the fact there was no more snow melting in the area . On my follow up call the next day i was informed they were working with Dunkin Donuts and Cumbys to schedule the fix for this Monday . Hope this helps

  15. Any water main break along Patriots rd will require pourable fill because of state regs. Patriots rd is a state highway in Templeton.

It takes a while to get the pourable fill and it is very expensive. Don't think the cost was in the budget. Still dealing with the cost of the water main breaks from July 2012. And then the repeated water main breaks on Patriots Rd. Do you remember how long those final repairs took? Same issue in ET.

  16. No exspensive fill needed leak not in road itis under sidewalk. Do the sewer users know that they are responsible for the sewer line from the main into the house even what's under road .responsible meaning maintaining, repair, also replacement ig neefed. Sewer can not loose tax payers psy 75 percent of debt , only responsible for main sewer. Hope no problems on Bald Rd pipe in some areas 30 to 40 ft deep.time for cit petition.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I also hope there are no problems on Bald. Rd. Sewer or water! The time for citizen petitions for the ATM in May has passed, unless you want to gather 100 + signatures for STM.

I also hope the leak under the sidewalk by Cumby's doesn't impact the road. Because that would be expensive.

Good question you raise, how many sewer lines have broken over the past 5 years?

  18. Its to bad some departments don't work for the same goal. Some can but just won't. But when some can they just can't because they don't. It sound backwards but is anything but!
Water can't flow without sewer. It was to much to ask the water dept to stop water for sewer bills to get paid. I guess when sewer won't flow its no water flow "either"!Just flushing out the truth! Can you shut off the water?
If i was a sewer commissioner i would say its not our problem, Like the water dept says to them !
Vote Dave Smart L+W commissioner to change this problem and others just like it! New blood is best for all boards. V.W. you need to stop helping the wrong team! Your being used! I've tried to get that through to you!

  19. What's with the "enough is enough" slogan on Skelton signs? What is he saying is enough? Enough progress? Enough moving forward? What exactly has he had "enough" of? And is that a positive campaign message? To me, it sounds negative and a perfect example of why NOT to vote for him. We need new people with new ideas and a positive attitude. I hope he will attend both candidates nights and explaining his platform better to the voters. Not that hearing his platform would change my mind. I'm voting for new people to serve on all boards, including Dave Smart.

    1. I heard Dana say "enough is enough" at a selectmen's meeting. He was angry that Julie reported the Commissioners for running illegal meetings, they violated the open meeting law, more than once. He was mad because they had to spend money on a lawyer. It would be a lot smarter for them to learn to run a correct, legal meeting. I guess it is easier, for them to blame Julie!! Yes, the Echo Hill gang does have it wrong! There are a good number of voters that have had enough of them!! It is time to show our feelings with our votes!! Maybe then they will get the message! My opinion, Bev.
