any coments on night 2

Truth Fairy has left a new comment on your post "Night 1 - town meeting":

Round 2 of ATM was grueling. Hard to think the "townspeople" could have been more rude to the moderator.

Dear Supt. Miller -
We get it! You want the town to go broke. The advisory board and the most of BOS get it as well. You want the town to amputate itself at the knees by taking $691,000 from town charges.

Go for the override.

If it fails, then the state will come in and amputate town government at the knees. The advisory board and the BOS do not seem interested in self mutilation.

  1. I am confused, obviously the $691,000 was originally put as an override (April 30) and the people voted NO! so now comes town meeting and you want to add the amount to the article and you are blaming the selectmen. first of all we had three other selectmen sitting on the board then, Stewart, Mullins and Wilder. Now if you wantd the additional money (now that it didn't pass on April 30) you should of made motions on Tuesday night as to where it would ome from. As that women said,we did the town budget line by line you could have wipped out the Police budget oe highway. you all could have voted NO on the 120,000 + for the EMT/Firefighter positions. But no you all voted yes and then you wanted your full amount. so if the moderator had let you put the higher amount forward, it then would have been the Selectmen who would have had go back and cut the Police and highway and fire and senior services etc. making them the bad guys. We are only allowed to raise 2 1/2 percent on the levy limit. so when we vote more for one thing (and it's not an override) it has to come from somewhere else. so wake up people if we don't get this override in June and the state decides the budget we could very well loose highway and police and fire etc.

  2. 1. If anyone had a problem with the order of the articles, how come they didn't attend the BOS meeting when the articles were discussed and approved and voice their concern?

    2. I would like to know exactly what has changed on the warrant since Viriginia Wilder signed it. Making such allegations that the articles had changed needs to be backed up with examples. Otherwise, her word means nothing. Also, someone needs to explain to her that it is not an insult to state that the former BOS chair was part of arranging the warrant articles. Its a fact and it is not stating blame or guilt. Look at the previous ATM warrants. The school budget has been after the town budget for as long as I can remember. Is it necessary to point out what happened last year when K&P packaged the school budget and an override within the same article? Is our collective memory that bad?

    3. If anyone didn't understand the guidelines for town meeting that the moderator spelled out on night one, it is not his fault.

    4. Did anyone from the school attend pre-town meeting or attend the joint meeting between BOS and Advisory Board to make sure that their article was correct? Did any school parent even think to pay attention to all the hard work the Advisory Board did towards the FY14 budget?

    5. Lets keep these issues in perspective: if the school has to operate with a limited budget and cut several teachers, counselors, assistants and activities, no one will die. But, if the town has to cut police/fire/rescue, and help doesn't come fast enough due to lack of man power and funding, someone could die.

    6. Around 2pm yesterday, the school posted a comment on their Facebook page that they knew the town was reading the $4m amount and not the $5m amount. So, why act as if it was a surprise? That made me lose respect for their word tremendously.

The amount of ignorance on what has happened in this town over the past several years makes my stomach ache. I am amazed at how people can have such entitlement despite their lack of knowledge and then to dare to criticize town officials who know and have operated according to the law. Its disgusting that they would easily pass on important articles just to get to the ones THEY care about faster. Its selfish and irresponsible. And, the town will not move forward if people continue to vote out of spite instead of what is best for the town overall. Its very juvenile.

And one more thing, wanna know how the town can waste $400k so easily? When they put an article on the warrant at the end of a town meeting when 2/3 of the audience leave after the articles they car about are over and miss out on voting. I know the school people made an effort to get people to stay for the whole meeting, however, it fell on deaf ears. Watching one person leave after another during the Planning Board articles was so disappointing. These people have the nerve to yell, bitch and moan that there isn't enough money for their special interest yet literally walk out on their opportunity to fully participate in shaping the direction of the town. Lets see how many people show up tonight. There's been an average of 300 on nights one and two. Will there be 300 tonight? I'm disgusted by the this community right now and its going to take a while for me to get over it.

    1. The little darlings, want their cake, and eat it too. I am totally disgusted with their rude behavior. No wonder the kids in this world, have so many problems. I apologize to Dave, for the behavior of these people. RaeAnn Trifilo, could not have been more brutal. I hope she is proud of her self. It is up to the people, to get their asses out the door to vote. The world is run by those who show up. East Templeton was voted down by Gerry's people. I watched John Brooks, who I have always respected. He is in the Lions Club. He voted against ET., so did Rae Ann and her husband. I think the ET vote was pay back for us stopping 252, by Skelton's people. The people in ET could have a nice town hall, but they did not show up to support it. What can you do? Virginia, the queen of mean, is in her element. She does not have to act like she is supporting her community. She would not remember what she signed, any way. Bart was very upset about the woman who tried to say, something illegal was going on. These people do not have a clue, how hard a job it has been, to try to keep the town on a even keel. I would love to have these people involve them selves in town government. Then their tune would change. Bev.

  3. The old BOS decided to do the switch! What people don't get is this was the process all along! Confusing.... YES!!!! But with all the bickering and fighting the elected officials have done in the past there has been lots of money lost! The override is a little amount in the grand scheme of things so hopefully it will pass. But if not the 112 can be filled and it WILL be file! I like my cake Vanilla with Lemon cream filling Please!!! Oh and hold the Venom as well, I think enough has been directed at the schools! :) Have a great Thursday!

    1. Sorry, but you got what you wanted, Virginia is gone. Now she does not have to act nice, and she can feel free to lie straight face to the voters. The Warrant for the town meeting, is the same one she signed, even though she said it was not. I don't think I could do that. Tell a room full of people something that is down right wrong. I have no problem giving the children what they need. That is not the point. I feel this budget has not been about the kids, from day one. The only way it was, is the things the administration threatened to take away, from the kids, if they did not get what they wanted. This budget is about the fat at the top, bottom line. So at this point, lets agree to disagree. There is no point in arguing. Bev.

    3. For the people: you sound as if it is a done deal without any further consideration by the district, as in they will not look for any compromise. Of course, I actually would like for the 1/12 budget and for the state to look at the district budget and the town budget and perhaps the state can help with the decision of do we really need two principals and two vice principals at Narragansett. Then Gansett Greatness can join Quabin school district as the only 2 school districts to have their budgets decided by the state. Hopefully that land lease fr the wind turbine did not exceed 5 years. I hope in the future all override ballot questions get two votes, one before town meeting and one after town meeting. It could be called the special acts of 2013: Amend MGL that all override questions need to pass town meeting and 2 separate ballot question attempts becaus this is what is happening now. As for ET being a town hall, we have town building expense, town building maintenance accounts, we have grants and we have Monty Tech, so the selectmen could vote to spend some money on a handicap ramp, a larger entrance door and remodel one restroom to standard and we could utilize Monty Tech to do the work and then we could just move in, save the money on rent and do upgrades as we go along. I am pretty sure we could get new shingles put on for what we are spending on lease for 690 Patriots Road. But first things first, we get to see the outcome of override vote, and if it fails, we then get to see Gansett Greatness and the district demonstrate if they are willing to compromise to benefit all.

  4. As everyone was conceerned with where the money was to come from to fund the schools I thought about the WWTP contract and the 25-35 million dollars lost. When a town takes a hit like that it can take years to recover. Hopefully the investigation being done at the State level can answer some the questions we all have in regards to this huge loss to the Town of Templeton. It is a good thing that people are attempting to do their homework on town issues so that hopefully this type of incident does not happen again.

    1. There was a fire last night, on Athol Road, right across from the Candle Light. There is nothing left, just two chimneys. Does anyone know who lives there now? It used to be Mrs Gadinowicz, years ago. Thank goodness we had a fire dept last night. You would have figured, something would have happened during the winter! Too bad it happened at all. Bev.

    2. That is a shame that all is gone. Thank goodness we did have a fire dept to keep the flames from spreading to adjacent homes & bldgs. How devastating. Speaking of that, people better keep an eye out for ET school. Didn't an "unexpected" accident happen to the Otter River School when a certain faction didn't get what they wanted & other folks wanted to clean that older bldg. up for the Senior Center to save us money?? There seems to be a certain group of people here that will stop at nothing, Still to this day, to get what they want. Not accusing anyone of anything but I know a lot of people had this same question & it appeared awfully suspicious considering the timing of everything that happened when that issue was going on. Just some thoughts to consider. Maybe it was truly just an accident but not sure if the actual cause was ever determined. Does anyone know? I think it would put a lot of people's minds at ease if it was faulty wiring or some natural cause. We'll probably never know but keep your neighborhood watches going strong everywhere regardless. Just my opinion, that I know is shared by others.

  7. The voters did not approve the water department budget, which vote the L&W commissioners and the manager, say is "non-binding". A vote for article 51 is a vote in favor of transparency.

Why wouldn't the water department submit its budget for review? If it was actually because the "template" was lost, that is an argument for incompetence on the part of L&W management. If it was because the management thinks they do not have to answer to the "town", that is an argument for the town to show that we intend to understand and have a say in the budget of this town-owned entity.

Article 51 supports the no-confidence vote which the town meeting made in L&W management for refusing to release a detailed budget. As of now, the water department can't spend any money after July 1. The L&W budget was not approved by voters at ATM. Management at L&W should not be fighting with the town, they should disclose the budget, and after review, should ask the selectmen for a Special Town Meeting so that the budget can be voted on by the townspeople. The tactic they are now taking is arrogant and irresponsible.

  9. I think i could say i told you so but i won't. It is up to the voters in the end to demand the water department be as transprearant as it should be and if the voters don't care about the rates one would think they don't care about the taxes either. I think we all care about both and it's time we show the people that do work for us what we want, not what the light and water lawyer wants! The same lawyer gets paid for work from water and light, the coop for wind, also mmwec where we get our electricity. It's no surprise he would spend so much time on this @ 300.00 per hour for his sole purpose of maintaining their power,And i don't mean the electric power either. It is our business!
Please come and vote for it IT is our Business!
Monday 7pm this is our chance to make things right for Tempelton!
