Shedding Some Light… Solar Dis-Array

Shedding Some Light…
Solar Dis-Array

The Templeton Light Commission met on June 3, 2014 to discuss the Ten K Solar Proposal on Farnsworth Rd. Before the executive session was convened, there was some discussion about the town meeting vote on May 19th that voted down the  solar PILOT agreement.

The letter to the BOS on May 23rd was mentioned. (Please see: General Manager Driscoll scapegoats Julie Farrell for his own incompetence. )

According to GM Driscoll “a lot of people were surprised” by the outcome of this vote. The department is in a holding pattern until “they can get around this.”

Mr. Driscoll remains mystified.

When asked about the time line to restructure the PILOT agreement according to DOR guidelines, the citizens in attendance were informed by Mr. Driscoll “that it was too late.”

A request for an agenda item to discuss the solar PILOT payment has been made for the next BOS meeting on June 9th.

My opinions…supported by FACTS ! ! !

  1. Quote Mr. Driscoll "that it was to late" - last month he should have purchased the power for the future and has not. It's to late to should we say get a good rate deal or to ate for any power deal.If Templeton goes dark the people will then know we need a purchase agreement. Other Municipal light dept don't purchase any power from MMWEC but TMLWP is in to MMWEC to the point they have even our light dept employees retirement account setup there. When the control has an outside influence MMWEC you get responses like this and the town assets are the last concern.I guess we will have to just pay more and more for our power and when the REC money runs out to offset the true cost of power we will PAY the price for the lack of management and commission knowledge.Mr. Driscoll remains mystified.
    No surprise there!
He can't find the contracts over 5,000.00 either.

  2. The Light Commissioners, yes the people you voted for, did not show one ounce of concern for how this agreement would short change the town. From what was said, I was right when I said this agreement would benefit the Light Company and Ten K, but not the town. Does John Driscoll think everyone is stupid ?? Why should the people in this town give anyone a free ride when towns around us is doing so much better?? The Manager and the Commissioners tried to slip this agreement under the rug, and almost pulled it off. I hope the DOR will not accept this agreement as it is, and will tell them to do it right. When you are in business, the price of doing business is to pay for your permits, and pay the taxes you owe. This is not going to be the last solar project the town will deal with and I could see no reason the Commissioners needed to meet behind closed doors. I do know that the people who should be watching out for the town are not doing their job, and that is sad. Bev.

  3. The people should to be educated this being made first !!!! having another company enbedding in L&W standards given them more control digging them in like tics rather then removing this form of municipal utilities all together opening up the way to private ownership and regulation that would support disable and fix incomes with a 35 % reduction in there bills
this does not hold to water but the water department should be removed as well in this I see who in support ?? a petition must be collected to make a vote for the whole town sake , so why is this not being work on ? please advise
