4.5 Megawatts of Solar Completed in Templeton, Massachusetts
Solar array will supply enough energy to power 700 homes.

MINNEAPOLIS, Jan. 26, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- tenK Energy, Integrys Solar, LLC and groSolar today announced the completion of a 4.5 megawatt (MW) DC solar power project in Templeton, Massachusetts.

The ground-mounted installation was developed by tenK Energy and sold to Integrys Solar, LLC. groSolar designed and built the project. The solar farm uses the high energy density tenKsolar® DUO system, which provides nearly 40% more energy per unit area, as well as conventional photovoltaic solar modules. They will supply enough energy to power about 700 homes.
Templeton Municipal Light & Water Plant (TMLWP) is purchasing the power generated from the project under a 20-year power purchase agreement.
Jack Levi, managing partner at tenK Energy stresses the value of solar for this community and credits John Driscoll at TMLWP and the Town of Templeton as the key to the success to bring this project on line.

Is this good thing for Templeton or a great thing for TMLWP? At the last TMLWP meeting i asked questions about the new solar farm. The questions i asked were about the cost to the TMLWP for the new poles and wires to hook up to this new place on farnsworth. Quick answer was 104,000.00. For all the infrustructure to be up to to date with the new higher ploes and wire for all 3 phase hookups. The General manager told me the cost would be taken off the amount we pay them for the power in the first years of operation. The next question was how much is the rate for the power we purchase. The cost to TMLWP will be 6.1 cents and less to start out to pay for the ploes etc. The # was 5.8 cents per kwh. Thats a good rate and when we think about the other costs we get on our bills for the transmission,distribution and other things they charge us for that comes close to double what the generation costs are. My point in asking the questions is kind of like the thing with the chip burner. If you don't ask questions you don't get answers " on tape" later on you can revisit the tape recording and tell the story with proof of truth. So my fellow TMLWP customers if they get the power for less than 1/2 the cost do you still pay the rest of the other charges on your bills. Who makes out on the deal? Does your and i light bills go down ?
ReplyDeleteOne would think with the cost of oil ,solar power and other factors related to Municipal power providers it would.
Think not my friends they are busy looking for ways to spend your money. Keeping the cost up will justify the money go to the light plant funds. As long as The private power companies charge X they can also as long as the amount is less. This has been the case for a long time and our power rates should have been lower a long time ago. We have been sold the story about the money and partnership on the nuclear power plants that would keep our rates stable and very lower compaired to other sources. Have they would be my big question and why have they gone up with the same purchsed power agreements through The state owned Mass Municipal Wholesale Electric Corporation. Do our rates reflect a rate that is just a little lower for the sake of the public opinion if they wern't lower? Without any investor payments like the other power companies have to pay it should be a lower rate. Now with the removal of the PILOT payment it should change the rate to recflect that and now with the oil price drop,solar rates being so great why not. Will you TMLWP commissioners take care of you and your walets? Most people that i would think would go and ask them questions don't go to the meetings. At the last one i was the only one there,why? I personally think it's because they have a monopoly on their customers. That is a fact. You are not allowed to purchase your power from any other power company. You can't get a company to give you a deal on your own solar power when the company heres this is a municipal light town they say sorry they won't let us come to Templeton and purchase the extra power the panels will produce. If the goal of power is to produce it clean and it is with solar your TMLWP is standing in the way of your right to that. If they ever produce the panels cheap enough the people in town could buy them and give the town a better power source.
