SUBJECT:        Dangerous Wind Chill Wednesday Night and Thursday
Situation
An intense Arctic cold front will sweep across the region Wednesday afternoon.  The temperatures will drop into the teens.  Northwest winds willgust to 25-35 mph Wednesday night and 15-25 mph on Thursday.  Wind chill indices of 15-30 degrees below zero across most of southern New England will likely prompt Wind Chill Advisories at a minimum.  Some areas, particularly western Massachusetts, may require Wind Chill Warnings.  For Boston, a low of 0 degrees will be the coldest reading in 4 years.  Highs Thursday will range from 13 to 18 degrees, except 20-25 degrees onCape Cod and the Islands.

Watches & Warnings
A Wind Chill Watch is in effect for Massachusetts North and West of I-495.  The wind chill readings could reach as low as 25-30 degrees below zero. 

Impacts
Potentially life-threatening cold.  Dangerous wind chills may result in frostbite or hypothermia; exposed flesh can freeze in 30 minutes or less at these temperatures.
 

Temperature Range:

·         10 below zero across northwest MA

·         near zero in Boston and Providence

·         0 to 5 above zero on Cape Cod

·         near 10 above on Nantucket

Timing
Wind Chills will drop to 15 below zero around rush hour Wednesday evening and to 25 below zero by late Wednesday night.  Wind Chills should rise to 15 below zero by noon on Thursday.

    If you have to go out and travel, make sure your gas tank is full. Keep an extra blanket in the car as well.
