Previous post on Town Vehicles
Recently I commented on the taking home of Town owned vehicles, which is similar to having a company car, you get to take home a vehicle that someone else pays for which I have never been in favor of, concerning Town vehicles. I gave an example of where there may be exceptions to a blanket policy of no town vehicles to be taken home. The example I cited was of the fire chiefs contract, which has now been changed from the last one I personally read. I have posted the new part concerning the taking home of the fire chief's vehicle. While giving the fire chief contract as an example, that is all it was, as it is the one I had in my mind which I could cite as of the last reading. I was not trying to single out Ray as I personally like him even though we disagree on a few things.

so here is the section of the contract that deals with the fire chief vehicle. This is something that is generally done in executive session, out of view from the public, although as soon as it is voted on, it should be disclosed to an open meeting. Just like the $250.00 boot allowance for the highway contract that as far as I know, is still in the contract.

F.     Use of Town Vehicle and Mileage Reimbursement:  The Town agrees to provide the Fire Chief with a Town-owned vehicle during the term of this agreement, such vehicle to be used solely to conduct Town Fire Department business.  This vehicle may be garaged at the residence of the Fire Chief, and may only be used for official business by the Chief with unplanned minor occurrences excepted.  On such occasions when the Fire Chief’s official vehicle is unavailable for use, the Town agrees to reimburse the Fire Chief for the use of his personal vehicle for Town Fire Department business within and without the Town. Such reimbursement shall be limited to documented mileage at the rate per mile as may be specified and changed from time to time by the Board of Selectmen.  In no event shall the Town reimburse the Fire Chief for mileage incurred commuting between his residence and the location of performance of his duties and functions as Fire Chief.
