The courtyard has been transformed into a gardening center. There is greenhouse and some fruit trees. There are also other beds on the NRHS property. Check out the website!
If they are succesful in obtaining the grant for the apple trees , they will be planted down near the cross country gate. There will be students to look after the apple trees. If you would like more information please contact aladeau@nrsd.org
Farming is not easy, and it is hard to make a living doing it. I spoke with a friend who's family has been growing vegetables and flowers for his whole life. It is a 24 hour job, depending what you choose to grow. My friend mentioned that the greens business has reached the point that there is a glut. Too many people growing the same product with no outlet. If a grower has the market, it is easier to sell what he grows. The problem comes in when you do not have a market or the season is good, and there is to much of a good thing, so the price drops like a rock. In reality, it is harder to grow produce or flowers today than it was when I grew up. Diseases and bugs have made growing most anything harder than ever. The idea that you can stick a plant in the ground, and walk away, is no longer possible. This program is a good thing for anyone who has a growers patience, and money to back him. Bev..
