Open Meeting Electronic communication, concern or not?

While attending Monday nights Selectmen meeting on June 8, 2015 at Town hall, I noticed that there were text messaging going on between Town employees which may not seem to be a big deal. It appeared to be reminders,  information or questions concerning what ever was being discussed at the time. The thing is, these are suppose to be open meetings for a reason, so all who observe can know what is going on and what is being discussed and how a decision is made. There is a thing concerning secret ballots or votes at open meetings and I believe it is there for a good reason. I believe this warrants a letter to the Attorney Generals office for an opinion.

  1. It seems that if our Selectmen are in a meeting, it would serve them better, and us as citizens, if they were not distracted by their cell phones. Maybe there would be less confusion on the part of the people elected to this important position if the txting would stop. Maybe this should be like grammar school, when the teacher tells her student to put the toys away. I have actually been present when a Selectman was txting with a member of the audience. This is not cute or funny. If the people in the audience have anything to share, it should be with the whole group. Bev.
