Elementary School Information

Elementary School Information
Documented below is information from the October 24, 2014 Selectman's meeting. The chart, listed below, includes preliminary estimates for the elementary school project for each site under consideration at that time.

Highlighted in blue is the "Likely Templeton Project Cost Magnitude".

For the chosen site - Templeton Center School the likely Templeton Project Cost magnitude was estimated at $19,800,000. However, Templeton's Net Project costs amount to an estimated $24,560,000 roughly $5,000,000 in project costs will not be eligible for MSBA reimbursement to be paid for by citizens in the Town of Templeton.

MSBA has never reimbursed a school project 100%. It is still unclear how a community can ask its voters to borrow money when it does not have a bond rating.

  2. ask the selectmen who were in office at that time, but try this out, the Town has been told for a while there is 750 thousand dollars coming their way in free cash soon, so put the project on hold and then make a cash offer of 500 thousand dollars for one of the other sites then you could have a site bigger and closer to NRHS. All the studies will have been done and you will have the design completed, paid for and reimbursed by MSBA. That would be a shovel ready project which I would bet MSBA would put on the list quickly at a later date as all the leg work is complete. Since the town would own the site, the early engineering work on the site could be completed before going to MSBA again and you would have all the answers prior to going. I do not know if anyone has asked any of those questions but I believe the answers right now would be that is a bad idea because you may not get on the MSBA list again and we need a new school right now so lets hurry up. Besides, I think the selectmen are thinking of using any free money to pay for a new excavator that the Town has to have right now because without it there can be no road work done. 15 are towns get their road work done without an excavator but Templeton has to have an excavator and no selectmen bothered to check. At least selectmen Morrison pointed out that information out but the chairman said since there is no documentation on that, it is not relevant and a vote against the excavator is a vote against road work in Templeton. Who knows, perhaps there will be a new Phillipston school at Templeton Center. Right now I hope Bud Chase is buying a new snow plow to go on the new excavator because we made need it this winter.
