Senator Gobi Named Vice-Chair of Veterans Committee

(Boston) – Senator Anne M. Gobi (D-Spencer) was selected by Senate President Stanley Rosenberg to succeed the late Senator Thomas Kennedy of Brockton as vice-chair of the Joint Committee on Veterans and Federal Affairs.  The Committee oversees legislation concerning veteran services, rights and federal affairs.

“It is an honor to serve on the Veterans and Federal Affairs Committee, as a member of the American Legion and VFW Auxiliaries it is a way that I can help to repay the debt that are service men and women are owed,” said Senator Gobi.

Senator Gobi learned of the vital role our veterans play at a young age.  Her father served in the Navy as a Seabee.  A Seabee is a member of the United States Naval Construction Forces (NCF). The word "Seabee" comes from the initials "CB" which in turn comes from the term Construction Battalions. The Seabees’ chief responsibility is building bases, bulldozing and paving thousands of miles of roadway and airstrips, and accomplishing countless other construction projects dating back to World War II.

“I am pleased that the members of the Senate Democratic Caucus have approved Senator Gobi’s appointment as Vice Chair of the Committee on Veterans and Federal Affairs.  As the daughter of a veteran she knows firsthand the challenges and issues that our servicemen and women face as part of their service.  Senator Gobi has the intellect and compassion to provide important perspective to the Committee in her new role,” said Senate President Stan Rosenberg (D-Amherst).

Senator Gobi has been a member of the committee since the beginning of the 2015-2016 session and has been an active participant in hearings.  She has constantly advocated on behalf of veterans and included funding for multiple memorials in this year’s budget.

  1. Good for Ann and good for the Veterans who need a hand. This young lady is not afraid to fight for what is right and will be there when she is needed. Ann Gobi has helped the town in numerous ways and I can honestly say no one could do any better. Bev.
