Road Flow Change Is Confirmed For School

TEMPLETON  Members of architectural firms met with town department heads on Wednesday to provide an updated site plan of what the new Templeton Elementary School is slated to look like.

Originally, traffic was slated to run in both directions, but after meeting with department heads, they decided several months ago to go with one-way roads, which was confirmed on Wednesday.

According to Civil Engineer Peter Glick, Wellington Road will go one way in the south direction. South Road will go one way in the north direction.

There’ll be pullover on both roads with designated spots, depending on the students’ age.

“Smaller children will use the door on Wellington Road,” Glick said. “Older children can get dropped off on South Road.”

Glick said parking and drop-off provides a lot of flexibility in site design.

Glick said they relocated the playground area for safety concerns.

“The children won’t have to cross traffic to get there,” Glick said. “The playground is open to the community during the day.”

He said they will have 72 parking spaces, which is more than expected. There will be 20 parking spaces at the police station addition.

The new school will house 580 students. It has a total project budget of $47,563,184, with the state paying for $22.7 million. The cost to taxpayers will be $1.74 per 1,000 of home valuation for the length of the bond.

  1. OK, so a continuation of my previous line of thought. $22.7 million is only roughly 48% of the entire cost of the project.
None of the numbers I'm hearing seem to be adding up. I believe Ms. Farrel mentioned a 62% figure for state re-reimbursement.

Is anyone aware of a method in which we could stop this school from progressing at this point. You know your getting fleeced when the tax calculation has already been made and we have no final design or a bond rating.

C'mon, I just read the teachers wanted the lounges moved together and on one floor which has to change the design and cost structures, additional this, moving that.......yet we have a price to build.................lol.
