MEDFORD — A highway worker is dead and a driver is in custody following an accident on Interstate-93 in Massachusetts early Tuesday.
It happened around 3 a.m. in the northbound lanes of the highway near exit 33 in Medford when State Police say a car slammed into a truck and then hit the worker, killing him. Police say the worker was part of a lane marking contract crew and a work zone with safety cones and warning signs had been set up. He was pronounced dead at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
State Police tell WCVB-TV that the driver will be charged with operating under the influence.
Another highway worker was seriously hurt after being hit in Boston Monday. A man has been charged with OUI in that incident.

This group of workers had no one helping with traffic. The poor guy that died had contacted a friend and said it was scary out there that night. Why didn't they use local police if they couldn't get State Police ?
