Back in 2000, taxpayers paid Harry Aldrich about $65,000.00 per year to supervise highway, water and sewer. Now, taxpayers pay Bud Chase about $63,000.00 per year for just highway. A water superintendent makes about $90,000.00 per year and the sewer superintendent makes about $70,000.00 (from the FY 2014 annual town report) there is no report of the treasurer or accountant in FY 2015 annual town report. So, you now pay about the same for the highway super as you paid for three departments, how did that merger work out for you? It did work out for one individual's retirement plan. Where is that updated annual town report, per instruction by town meeting? Now that is an insult to democracy, thank you John Columbus.
Thanks for posting that Jeff. This is exactly what I was referring to the other day. The BOS is setting us up for more expense under the idea of saving money.
ReplyDeleteAs you pointed out the great move in 2000 cost us $160,000 with now increased service. This is why I did not support putting a cell in the police station. A cell requires a staff member to always be present if someone is locked up. This adds to the cost of running our police station again with no benefit to taxpayers.
All decisions made by the BOS should have one guiding principle....."Does the action directly benefit the taxpayers" If it does not it shouldn't be done, period.
The BOS seems to beleive that they will make the Police Chief the "Public Safety Officer" ( I assume they think with no pay increase.........lol) They will eliminate the Fire Chief. First we'll hear about the need for an assistant to the Public safety officer. This position along with the "public Safety Officers" increase in pay will wipe out any savings. Within 2 years we'll replace the Fire and Police Chief with new people and maintain the "public Safety Officers" position which will probably just increase our budget by $100,000+ annually.
I'm sure that based on certain State or Federal grants, funding we will either not receive funds or be required to fill these positions.
Speaking of 2000 and John Columbus it is my belief Board of Selectmen member Mr. Columbus acting in his capacity as Chairman of the town's Democratic Party brought Senator Stephen Brewer in on that fraudulently constructed classic money grabbing legislation Ch 93 Acts of 2000. Mr. Columbus has been in on some classic back room deals that have cost this town plenty. Mr. Columbus was on the School Committee as the local Elementary Schools were allowed to fall into disrepair. Mr. Columbus sat idly by in his position as Democratic Chairman as the treatment plant contract and the Sewer Commissioners were hung out to dry. Mr. Columbus has been the most influential politician in this town for many years all the while staying out of the lime light. The brilliance of Mr. Columbus does not stop with his back room deals as he has sold his property in town and is now a renter as far as I know. Mr. Columbus has cost this town a whole lot and when the bill comes due it will be someone else that pays it.
