A Cautionary Tale

Spencer Water Crisis - April 25-27, 2007

A CAUTIONARY TALE

From April 25- April 27 2007 the community of Spencer experienced a water crisis when a "chlorine bomb" had been released into the water system.

The full 293 page report can be viewed HERE.

Carter Terenzini was the town manager of Spencer at this time.

Departmental consolidation had occurred creating an Office of Developmental Services in the Town of Spencer.

Sound familiar?

The Town of Spencer also had Fire Chief.

  1. There is a different chain of command in Templeton so hopefully something similar will not happened with our water system but the take away lesson would seem to be that creating instability in local government can have repercussions. Saving money by eliminating a valued employee may save some money in the short run but cause large expenses in the long run. It appears we have seat of the pants management at this time.

  2. I wonder if Spencer has a reverse 911 system yet ? I want you to know Spencer has some industry, a couple of shopping malls, stores on Main Street, much more industry than our Town has. That means the taxpayer does not shoulder the whole load.
