Awan Brothers Had ‘Secret Server’ While Becerra Was Caucus Chair

Awan Brothers Had ‘Secret Server’ While Becerra Was Caucus Chair

An expanding probe into the Awan brothers scandal has revealed that a massive data breach occurred at the U.S. House Democrat Caucus while California’s newly-appointed Attorney General, Xavier Becerra, was the chair.

It now appears that a “secret server” and a massive cyber security breach that resulted in the arrest of Imran Awan —aide to former Democratic National Committee Chair Rep. Debbie Wasserman Shultz (D-FL) — and his wife, Hina Alvi, on bank fraud and conspiracy charges.  In spite of the existence of what is now a growing scandal, Shultz tried to shield the now-indicted former Congressional aide, refusing to fire him even after it became clear that he allegedly routed data from a number of House Democrats to a secret server.

An investigative reporter at the Daily Caller, Luke Rosiak, revealed that a source only identified as a “senior official” gave details about how the existence of a additional “secret server” was discovered when then Rep. Becerra, who had just been appointed California’s Attorney General, asked to have his server “wiped clean:”
The secret server was connected to the House Democratic Caucus, an organization chaired by then-Rep. Xavier Becerra. Police informed Becerra that the server was the subject of an investigation and requested a copy of it. Authorities considered the false image they received to be interference in a criminal investigation, the senior official said.
Data was also backed up to Dropbox in huge quantities, the official said. Congressional offices are prohibited from using Dropbox, so an unofficial account was used, meaning Awan could have still had access to the data even though he was banned from the congressional network.
Awan had access to all emails and office computer files of 45 members of Congress who are listed below. Fear among members that Awan could release embarrassing information if they cooperated with prosecutors could explain why the Democrats have refused to acknowledge the cybersecurity breach publicly or criticize the suspects.
Even though the details of this unfolding scandal read more like the script of a badly-written, politically-correct episode of Law and Order than the actions of duly-elected Democrat representatives and their aides, the story has been largely ignored by the mainstream media.

Sean McCluskie, Becerra’s chief of staff during his term in the House, is now the chief deputy attorney general of California. He was also the executive director of the Democratic Caucus during the security breach. Becerra is responsible for making more payments to the Awan family than any other House member.

For his part, Becerra has remained strangely silent on the breach — and in spite of the Democrats’ obsession with alleged hacking by the Russians, so have all of his party colleagues.
