Parades and ceremonies throughout the region
Monday: The Chester P. Tuttle American Legion Post 279 will host the annual Memorial Day Parade. The parade will begin at 10 a.m. at the corner of Auburn Street and Bryn Mawr Avenue. Info
Charlton
Sunday: American Legion Post 391 will attend a Mass May 27 at St. Joseph’s Church on H Putnam Road Extension, assembling at 9:30 a.m. Following the Mass, Post 391 will place wreaths and conduct rifle honor salutes at each cemetery and at the Vietnam Memorial Bridge on Stafford Street.
Monday: The annual Memorial Day parade will be held, rain or shine. Participants are to assemble at 1:30 p.m. within the main entrance of the Overlook Masonic Health Center. Step-off time is 2 p.m. Marchers will parade to the Town Library. Memorial wreaths will be placed on the Town Honor Roll. Memorial rifle salutes will be given. Honored speakers will be introduced and music performed by the Shepherd Hill Regional High School Marching Band. Charlton Middle School students will read their selections honoring veterans of all conflicts. Info
Clinton
Monday: The Memorial Day program will begin at 9 a.m. in Central Park, with a parade to follow. The parade will proceed on Main Street, stop at the World War I monument and then continue to Woodlawn and St. John’s cemeteries, with ceremonies at each.
East Brookfield
Monday: A ceremony will be held at 9:30 a.m. at the Podunk Cemetery. Parade formation will begin at 10:40 a.m. and the parade will begin at 11 a.m. at the Memorial Town Complex on Connie Mack Drive. The parade will proceed east on Route 9 to Evergreen Cemetery, where a service will be held. The parade will regroup and follow Main Street to Pleasant Street, with closing ceremonies at the Veterans Memorial at Depot Square.
Fitchburg
Sunday: White Cross ceremony for MIA veterans of Fitchburg at 6 p.m. at Monument Park in Fitchburg.
Monday: Wreaths will be placed at cemeteries and monuments citywide, beginning at 7:20 a.m. A parade will begin at 10 a.m. at North Street and proceed up Main Street to the Upper Common gazebo, where a program will be held at 10:30 a.m. Info

Holden
Monday: The annual parade will begin at 11 a.m. This year’s events is dedicated to WWII veteran Arthur Howland.
Leicester
Monday: The annual parade starts at 10:30 a.m. at Memorial School and will proceed to the Town Common, where a ceremony will be held.
Marlboro
Monday: The parade begins at 10 a.m. at the American Legion headquarters on Maple Street. It will move from the Legion Post to Main Street and finish at Monument Square. Parade participants include veterans, local scouting groups, marching bands and elected officials. The parade stops to decorate the monuments to veterans of the Vietnam War, Korean Conflict, World Wars I and II, the Spanish American War and the Civil War. Each ceremony will include taps and a gun salute. The parade will end at Monument Square at approximately 11 a.m. where speakers honor veterans. Info.
Monday: The Memorial Day parade and ceremonies will begin at 11:30 a.m. at the Civil War Monument at Main and Monroe streets, marching to the World War II-Korean War-Vietnam War monument, then to First World War monument and ending at the Veterans Memorial/Flag Pole in the Howard Street Cemetery. Monday: Memorial Day Fair from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at First Parish Church UU, 40 Church St., featuring plant sale, games for children, yard sale, book sale, barbecue and more
Northbridge
Monday: The Northbridge Memorial Day Parade will begin at 10 a.m. All units are asked to assemble on Church St., in Whitinsville near Granite St. Units should be in place by 9:30 a.m. The parade will march down Church Street, to Memorial Common for continuation of services. Participating units are the Northbridge High School Marching Band, the Douglas High School Marching Band, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and several youth athletic teams. Veterans and Military vehicles will also be participating. In case of inclement weather the services will be held at Northbridge High School beginning at 10 a.m.
Princeton
Sunday: The Princeton Memorial Day Parade starts at 1 p.m. on the Upper Town Common then proceeds to Woodlawn Cemetery for prayers, a gun salute and taps before proceeding to the Lower Common for the final observance of the day. U.S. Rep. James P. McGovern is planning to attend. A luncheon for veterans and their families will be held at the First Congregational Church following the ceremony.
Monday: The parade will start at 10 a.m. at the monument on Grove Street and will conclude with a program at Rotary Park in Putnam. Info
Rutland
Monday: The Rutland Legion Post 310 and Rutland Boy Scouts will assemble at 7 a.m. at the Community Hall, 250 Main St. and proceed to New Boston Cemetery, West Rutland Cemetery, Brooks Square, Memorial Field and the Veterans Memorial for services. Parade participants assemble at 9:45 a.m. at Community Hall with the parade starting at 10 a.m., proceeding down Main Street to Rural Cemetery for memorial services, after which the parade returns up Main Street to the town commons for services there. Shrewsbury
Monday: A Memorial Day parade will depart at 9:30 a.m. from the Richard D. Carney Municipal Office Building, 100 Maple Ave., and stop at the Soldier’s Statue in front of the police station on Maple Avenue, the War Memorial at the Town Center (Route 140 and Main Street) and at the veterans’ lots at Mountain View Cemetery. The memorial address will be given at the town center. Info
Sterling
Monday: The Memorial Day Parade will begin at 11 a.m. at Hillside Cemetery. Buses for participants will start running at 10 a.m. from the Legion Hall on School Street to the fire station on Main Street, then to Hillside Cemetery on Route 62. Marchers will begin formation at 10:45 a.m. The parade will proceed to Oak Hill Cemetery, Old Cemetery, the Memorial Area behind the fire station, and to the Town Common for the observance program.
Monday: The Avenue of Flags will be on display from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Hillside Cemetery, weather permitting. Anyone, including Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, who would like to help honor deceased veterans should arrive at the cemetery at 7:30 a.m. to help raise the flags.
Southbridge
Friday and Saturday: The Southbridge Veterans Council will place flags at the gravesites of departed veterans at 11 a.m. Friday at the New Notre Dame Cemetery on North Woodstock Road, and at 9 a.m. Saturday at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Everett Street. Anyone wishing to volunteer for this task may do so by being at the two locations at the scheduled times.
Monday: Observances will begin at 8:30 a.m. All units will assemble at Town Hall’s GAR Monument at 8:15 a.m. James Sotille, Veterans Council vice president, will speak and wreaths will be placed. The group will reassemble in front of the Fire Department and leave at 9 a.m. After several other observances, the procession will end at the VFW headquarters, 219 Everett St.
Townsend
Upton
Monday: Members of the VFW and American Legion will begin visiting cemeteries at 8 a.m. A parade from the Memorial School begins at 10:15 a.m., with units forming at 9:45 a.m. The main ceremony will be held at the Town Common, beginning at 10:30 a.m.
Westboro
Monday: Participants in the annual Memorial Day observances at town cemeteries will meet at 8 a.m. at VFW Post 9013 on Milk Street. Buses depart at 8:30 a.m. for ceremonies at St. Luke’s Cemetery, then continue to Pine Grove Cemetery. The parade will begin at 9:10 a.m., marching first to Pine Grove Cemetery, then to Midland Cemetery, then to the World War I, World War II, Korean War and Gulf War Memorials. Info
West Boylston
Monday: Graves will be decorated at 8:30 a.m. at St. Luke’s Cemetery and 9:15 a.m. at High Plains Cemetery. A parade begins at the Beaman Library at 10:30 a.m. and proceeds to Mt. Vernon Cemetery for a ceremony, followed by another at the War Monuments on the Town Common.
Saturday: 10 a.m. Veterans, Boy and Girl Scouts will place grave flags for all veterans buried in all cemeteries in Winchendon.
Sunday: Veterans Church Services at the United Parish Church will include the reading of the rolls honoring all those who have passed during war from Civil War, WWI, WWII, Korea and Vietnam.
Monday: At 8 a.m. Firing Squads from the Legion and Marine Corp League meet at the Whitney Bridge (Marines) honoring all veterans that died at sea; Legion at Calvary Cemetery at the Flag Pole. Firing squads fire, taps played, in remembrance of those who have who have served their country. Winchendon Post 193 Firing Squad meets at 9 a.m. Veterans Cemetery Services. The parade begins at 10 a.m. at the Winchendon Fire Station, marching down Central Street, stopping at Legion Park on Pleasant Street and VFW Park on Route 12 and then marching to the Gazebo at GAR Park for ceremonies. Monday: At 9 a.m., a ceremony will be held at the state Veterans Cemetery, Glenallen Street. Info
Worcester
Sunday: A Memorial Day Water Ceremony will be held at Elm Park at 2 p.m.
All Faiths Cemetery, 9 Island Road, will celebrate its 132nd anniversary. A worship service will begin at 10 a.m., followed by refreshments at the conclusion.
Korean War Veterans will hold a memorial service at 2 p.m. at the Korean War Monument on Foster Street.
