Midterm election numbers for Greater Gardner

While the nation saw a change with the Democrats taking control of
the House of Representatives during Tuesday’s mid-term elections, the
local region stayed the course, seeing a number of candidates,
Independent, Republican and Democrats, re-elected. These are the results
of each town for the election, as of Nov. 7.
SENATORS IN GENERAL COURT
In the Worcester and Middlesex District, state Sen. Dean Tran, R-Fitchburg, was re-elected, beating Democratic challenger Susan Chalifoux Zephir.
In Gardner, Tran beat out Chalifoux Zephir, 3,752-2,997.
In Westminster, Tran won, 2,255-1,549.
Incumbent state Sen. Anne Gobi, D-Spencer, won the seat for the Worcester, Hampden, Hampshire and Middlesex District against Republican Steven Hall.
In Ashburnham, Gobi won 1,529-1,189.
In Templeton, Gobi beat Hall 1,769-1,367.
Gobi took Winchendon over Hall 1,813-1,647, and Phillipston 471-363.
In Hubbardston, Gobi narrowly took the lead over Hall, 1,118-1,110.
STATE REPRESENTATIVES IN GENERAL COURT:
State Rep. Kim Ferugson, R-Holden, was re-elected for 1st Worcester District, beating Green Party candidate Mathew Moncreaff.
Ferguson won Westminster over Moncreaff, 1,364-291.
Incumbent state Rep. Jon Zlotnik, D-Gardner, was re-elected for the 2nd Worcester District, beating Republican Ed Gravel and Green Party candidate Yasmine Khdeer.
Zlotnik took 1,452 votes in Ashburnham, Gravel had 1,210 and Khdeer 67.
In Gardner, Zlotnik won with 3,938 votes, and Gravel had 2,650 and Khdeer 172.
Zlotnik also won Westminster with 953 votes, while Gravel had 904 and Khdeer 47.
In Winchendon, Gravel had the most votes with 1,699, while Zlotnik had 1,657 and Khdeer 131.
Incumbent state Rep. Susannah Whipps, I-Athol, was re-elected in the 2nd Franklin District, beating out young Democrat John Arena.
Whipps took Templeton over Arena, 2,260-780.
In Phillipston, Whipps won over Arena, 644-166.
REPRESENTATIVE IN CONGRESS
Incumbent U.S. Rep. Jim McGovern, a Democrat from Worcester, was re-elected for the for the 2nd Worcester District, beating Republican Tracy Lovvorn.
In Hubbardston, McGovern barely took the lead, 1,135-1,100.
In Templeton, McGovern won 1,631-1,494.
McGovern also won Phillipston, 432-394.
Lori Trahan, D-Lowell, was elected for as the new representative in Congress for the 3rd Worcester District, replacing Nikki Tsongas who vacated the seat. Trahan beat Republican Rick Green and Independent Michael Mullen.
In Gardner, Trahan won over Green, 3,601-2,757, and Mullen secured 381 votes.
In Ashburnham, Green won 1,285-350 over Trahan, with Mullen getting 115 votes.
Green barely won Westminster over Trahan, 1,830-1,785, with Mullen receiving 191 votes.
Green also won Winchendon over Trahan by a smaller margin, 1,292-1,239.
U.S. SENATOR
Incumbent Democratic Sen. Elizabeth Warren was re-elected over Republican Geoff Diehl and Independent Shiva Ayyadurai. Despite her win, Diehl won the majority of towns in the Greater Gardner area, while Ayyadurai trailed far behind at every poll. Warren has held her post since 2013.
In Gardner, Warren beat Diehl 3,401-2,992, with Ayyadurai securing 401 votes.
Diehl had more luck in Phillipston, winning over Warren, 463-339, with Ayyadurai receiving 32 votes.
Diehl won Ashburnham over Warren, 1,353-1,289, with Ayyadurai at 124 votes.
Diehl also won Hubbardston over Warren, 1,228-906, with Ayyadurai at 121 votes.
Diehl overtook Warren in Templeton, 1,700-1,312, while Ayyadurai walked away with 148 votes.
Westminster also voted for Diehl over Warren, 1,999-1,695, Ayyadurai received 175 votes.
Winchendon, which tends to also vote Republican, voted for Diehl over Warren, 1,852-1,503. Ayyadurai secured 164 Toy-Town votes.
GOVERNOR
Incumbent Republican Gov. Charlie Baker and Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito held their seats, holding off Democrats Jay Gonzalez and Quentin Palfrey.
Baker beat Gonzalez in the Greater Gardner area, securing the majority of Gardner votes at 5,249-1,481.
Baker took Ashburnham over Gonzalez, 2,070-651.
Hubbardston also voted for the Republican incumbents over Gonzalez, 1,763-427.
Phillipston stuck with incumbent Baker as well over Gonzalez, 659-168.
Templeton’s majority vote went to Baker and Polito as well, 2,580-537.
Westminster voted red, with Baker winning over Gonzalez at 3,070-723.
Winchendon voted for Baker overwhelmingly, 2,780-697.
ATTORNEY GENERAL
Incumbent Attorney General Maura Healey won her re-election over Republican James McMahon. Healey has held her post since 2015.
Healey took Gardner over McMahon, 4,180-2588.
Healey won Ashburnham over McMahon, 1,575-1,182.
Healey barely beat McMahon in Hubbardston, 1,137-1,107.
In Phillipston, Healey barely beat McMahon as well, 419-412.
Templeton voted for Healey over McMahon, 1,638-1,514.
Healey lead the race in Westminster, 2,152-1,681.
Winchendon saw a closer race between winner Healey and McMahon, 1,816-1,689.
DISTRICT ATTORNEY
Incumbent District Attorney and Democrat Joe Early won his race against Independent attorney Blake Rubin, who had previously worked under Early. This was Early’s first contested race in 11 years.
Early took Gardner over Rubin, 4,550-2,019.
In Ashburnham, Early got the majority vote over Rubin, 1,717-915.
In Hubbardston, Early got the majority vote beating Rubin 1,270-877.
Phillipston residents voted for voted for Early over Rubin, 468-339.
The majority of Templeton voters also went with Early instead of Rubin, 1,829-1,220.
Westminster voted for Early over Rubin, 2,379-1,253.
In Winchendon, Early trumped Rubin, 2,033-1,314.
SENATORS IN GENERAL COURT
