Massachusetts Fluoride Update

Massachusetts Fluoride Update

An Act Establishing a Fluoride Task Force (S2196) was introduced by Senator Bruce Tar in the
Massachusetts State Senate last winter, and if passed, would be the first step in making the massive
statewide economic impact of fluoridation painfully obvious to both the public and legislators.

The bill would require that a state-level task force study how much municipalities are currently
spending on artificial fluoridation, including the cost of the chemical, the injection equipment, the
corrosion caused by the acidic additive, the required certifications for water employees, and much
more.  It would finally give rate-payers and elected officials a comprehensive look at how much
money is being wasted on this toxin rather than actual safe and effective oral health alternatives.
A public hearing was held on the bill in 2019, and it was well supported by legal, scientific, and
public health experts from across the state, but politicians at the State House of failed to take any
action.  They must act on this bill by this Wednesday, February 5th, or it will die.

Our organizer on the ground in Massachusetts has asked that you please call the co-chairs of the
Joint Committee on Public Health to call on them to “support S2196 in favor of establishing the
fluoride task force.”
Sen Joanne “Jo” Comerford (D Hampshire, Franklin and Worcester) - Chair
(617) 722-1532
Jo.Comerford@masenate.gov
Rep John Mahoney (D Worcester) - Chair
(617) 722-2130
John.Mahoney@mahouse.gov
Follow up with all of them by email to drive home the point, cc’ing the sponsor,
Sen Tarr: Bruce.Tarr@masenate.gov

Then please phone your representatives in the State Legislature and tell them to approve S2196
before the deadline on Wednesday.
Thank you,
