from Bev

Did you guys know we have been down the road before? Don't know what I mean? Our first battle, the Battle of the Bales.! You know that was in the 70's. A group of guys from Boston area, wanted to start a dump, they came with great promise., one of those get rich deals. The city guys went to Hubbardston, first. Asked the town if they could open a dump, it was a good plan. They were going to bring rubbish into town by rail car. It was a good plan until the people in town, got wind of this grand plan and stopped it cold. From what I have been able to determine, over the years, this group went to Templeton next. They met with one of our selectmen, told him about the deal. Only thing, the deal was to good to share, with every one else in town, so our #1 selectman , went to see his neighbor and the two of hatched a plan of their own, that did not enclude the rest of the town. They soon were hauling trailor truck, after trailor truck full of rubbish, into Templeton. No permits, No plans, just keep them coming. Well that went along, no one was the wiser, until My x husband, John and his friend George decided to go hunting, off Hubbardston Rd. You will never guess what they fell over?? Hutchies Dump, a huge area filled with rubbish and garbage. John came home to tell me what they found! To tell you the truth, we did not know what the hell to do? The word finally leaked that they were caught. Our #1 selectman, got his rear in gear, and they started covering the mess they had made. Gladys Salame, came out of the crowd to be the leader of the first Conserned Citizens Group in Templeton. Well, well, well, you will never guess how we made out? We didn't, yup we didn't. To make this long story short, it was a big cover up. John and George went to Boston, for a hearing, We filled up the selectmans meetings., We banged on doors, but by the end we had gotten rid of 1. Cheif of Police{he lied}, the Conservation Chairman, (he lied), one selectman quit, because he did not like the pressure he was under to cover someones ass. Boston DEQE, never made anyone pay a fine. They never had to move what they had dumped, we wanted to send it back. So from the way I look at this deal we are in the middle of now, We let the people who dumped on us away free and clear!! Wonder why we would give the world a message, that you can come into our town, and do what the hell you want. YOU CAN GET AWAY WITH THIS, IT HAD WORKED BEFORE, IT WILL WORK AGAIN! JUST GET A LEGAL TEAM TO CLEAN UP THE MESSES, PLAY GAMES WITH THE PAPER WORK, WE WILL BE FINE! WELL THIS OLD LADY HAS GOT A NEWS FLASH FOR YOU!! WE ARE NOT GOING TO LAY DOWN AND GET WALKED ON AGAIN. WE ARE DRAWING THE LINE IN THE SAND, NO MORE,YOU DID THIS TO US, WE WANT OUR INVESTIGATION! NOW. ALL WE ASK IS THAT OUR TOWN COUNSIL WATCH TO MAKE THERE IS NO INTERFERENCE, FROM ANYONE. I THINK WE CAN TRUST HIM TO DO THAT. By the May Annual Town Meeting we will have a ByLaw in place, strong enough, so that NO one will ever do this to us again. I never want our fellow citizens to go to a Selectmans Meeting and be surrounded by Police again! I know that I am not willing to ask the people in this town to asorbe the ammount of money, that has come for us to pay, as result the actions of a few. We were not protected by the people we hired, to watch out for our town. We need for all of you to stand next to us and vote yes on Article 8

    1. She is correct, It was no big secret back then and it was in the papers. Hutchie was/is Fred Hutchinson who owned and let them bury trash at his junkyard on Hubbardston Rd. the place that is a scrap metal yard still.

Wonder if those bales were full of asbestos and pcb's, or better yet, Did they ever find Jimmy Hoffa? So you new residents up on Hubb. Rd. and South Rd. area, One of the selectman involved was the one that sold all that land you are living on and borders the junkyard. bet you were'nt informed by the developers.

    2. In those days, it was alot harder to get information. In reality, the guy who owned all that land, some how it ended in Mr.Hutchenson's name. I will believe until the day I die, that the state DPW, were paid off. You know, people can be bought cheap. We need to take a stand tonight! I promised Pauly we would get his investigation. He is in the hospital again. He went up last night. This is a man who was fearless, setteled for letting the system take of what he knew was wrong. Now he is sitting back, watching to see how we make out. Lets not let him down. Bev

    1. My, my, wouldn't that just make you so happy! Then all the evil doers, can slink off, to screw up the town some more. The past is going to be in you face every time you pay your tax bill, for years to come. Good luck, with stopping us. We have the facts, people are not stupid, and it is not ok for you and your low life friends to hurt our town. Most of the time it was to make them selves richer, at the expense of the tax payers. The only way to move on is going to take place tonight. IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO GET RUN OVER BY THE TRAIN, GET THE HELL OFF THE TRACKS. HOW AND THE HELL CAN YOU GIVE ANYONE SHIT ABOUT POSTING AS ANONYMOUS, THE SAME TIME YOU ARE DOING THAT YOUR SELF? MY NAME IS BEVERLY BARTOLOMEO, AND THIS IS MY OPINION.

  4. You have a right to your opinion and I am not "old buddies" as you state. Perhaps the young blood is sick of the old blood rebel rousing! You must be an old coot if you keep reliving in the past!BTW I hear the "Hutchinson guy" is dead!

  7. Hutchinson lives in Salem, very much alive, his grandson runs the junkyard now, he took all the debris from the old buildings where Price Chopper is now to his junkyard. God knows what he is burying up there now. just ask the neighbors. But wait lets just put our heads back in the sand......

    1. The Battlt of the Bales was not easy on any of us, including the Hutchensons. Good old Floyd talked him into a big mess. I always thought it was a kind of "Justice" that he got the land from Floyd. It is ironic, that Floyd could not have gotten elected as the dog catcher, but he did have support of the Lions Club. {Think about that one!!Ha, ha, Bev

    2. I think that is a sad day, when you will let wrong doings go, at the cost to the other people in this town. I'm talking to you, Anonymous 4:09. Just what kind of town do you want to live in? Well it is a dam good thing that there are enough smart people left in this town. Why don't you stay home and watch cartoons tonight, so you do not embarress your self. Bev.

    3. I live in the neighborhood. I believe the grandson (Mike) runs a clean operation over there. I visit frequently (looking for anything I didn't know I needed :} ) He has a station where all the fluids are taken out of vehicles. Most of the metal is taken out frequently and not much is stored there anymore, although I can't speak for what may be buried it does not look to me that there is anything in the ground. If you are so critical why don't you visit there and see for yourself. No one has ever throw=n me out for looking

  8. History has come back around again and some people like this, sort of a dog chasing his own tale. First, I wish people would post blogs under their names, second, all you "youngins" please remember us old folks have something you lack, experience, which someties comes from screwing up. My first concern is the investigation happens and it happens openly and honestly. Everything on the table. Upon my return, regardless of what happens, I am going to do something my dad was know for, I am going to take all the documents and records I have, which are many and in several places and publish them for any and all to see. Who was on what board, who voted how and what was the result. One place to start is 2004, and follow history forward to today. That should show how things got to where they are. After that go back to 2000 and look at some more history. One thing from the past that all taxpayers should consider, just how does anyone think the town was going to end up with no real tax increases over the years when everything keeps going up, what were the people in charge doing or thinking when they said we have a balanced budget, no lay offs and no tax hikes. Just how do you run a business like that. You end up with no money in the bank, junk equipment, employees bail on you and your credit cards maxed out to keep afloat as long as possible, then the ship sinks. Think about that while you anonymous play "tag". My thoughts as a resident.

    1. Jeffery, you are absolutely right. Things would have been so much better, if there was a plan. Any plan would do!! Instead, things happened, 40 year loans, up our as--s, and one day you turn around, and OMG, we have $17 million in debt, with no plan to pay it back, and not a lot to show for it! This is no way to run a business, never mind a town. I think the real lesson from the past is, to be aware of what your chairman is really doing. If you are on any committee, and you don't understand what is going on, don't be afraid to ask!! I feel most of the 252 Bald. Rd. Bldg. Committee members were left out of the loop, and really did not understand the dynamics of that deal. We will live, but lets be all the wiser. My opinion, Bev.
