Municipal Databank

The Department of Revenue has a ton of information about cities and towns in Massachusetts. It is available online and free of charge.  It is called the Municipal Databank.

There is a section to obtain data on Property Tax. Debt and Financial Indicators has links to financial flexibility reports, free cash, free cash and stabilization fund balances as percentage of budget, regional school excess and deficiency funds, enterprise fund retained earnings….look at this:

The DOR has the sewer enterprise in Templeton listed with $919,779 in Enterprise funds retained earnings in 2012. Why isn’t there a listing for the water enterprise fund? Isn’t that odd? Curious even? Just more things that make you go hmmm…

Have fun exploring the Municipal Databank !

My opinions…supported by FACTS ! ! !

    1. I have the most awful feeling! I am afraid of what we are going to find, the more we look. I think we are going down the rabbit trail and there is going to be a monster at the end, with no one to save us! I hope I am wrong. Bev. Oh I just thought of something, This site only shows what they have been given! Do you think some one was with holding information???

  2. Also, lest readers get the wrong impression, that $900+K is not all cash. It includes uncollected betterments, uncollected hookup fees, and I believe a few other receivables. I believe that actual cash is less than half of that figure, marginally enough. Thank you.

    1. Tommy, Maybe that is "pooled cash", what the hell ever that is!! That must be a Scott and Carol special. Mrs. Clogston, tried in vain to teach me bookkeeping, in high school. I don"t remember "Pooled Cash" as a term she used. Maybe I am wrong, but I don't think so. Bev

    2. Sorry Tom check with past employee as to what is in that acct. Does not include betterments and unpaid user fees. want to know what is in there talk to the former employee and by past employee I mean look in another office for that employee who knows everything about sewer and fought with Scott year after year - Jeff B and Julie who I'm talking about, hee-hee-hee

  3. Is this why "municipal" has been taken off Templeton Light and Water Dept. Not only does the management think they are not part of the town, but now the DOR thinks the same way? Why is the info not there? Who keeps screwing things up? Is it intentional? or is it just stupid is as stupid does?

  4. I would like to know if Commissioner/Chair Stewart considers the oversight of listing the water dept as an enterprise fund as "doing a good job". I would also like to know if he considers the same for submitting the same annual report 2 years in a row. DOens't sound like a managment is "doing a good job" to me and I'm sure any business consultant would not think so either. I wonder what the DOR thinks of these two items. Do they think the L&W are "doing a good job" managing themselves?
