RIP Rob Hubbard

Otter River —  Otter River, MA - Robert "Rob" L. Hubbard, 67 of Otter River, died peacefully Friday evening November 28, 2014 in Heywood Hospital after an illness.

Rob was born in Winchendon November 13, 1947, son of the late Donald W. and Elinor G. (Glover) Hubbard and has lived in Otter River for many years. He married his beloved wife Deborah A. (Flis) Hubbard October 13, 1973 and together they shared 41 years of marriage.

Rob holds a master's degree in Economics. In the 70's Rob served in the Peace Corps along with his wife, in Botswana, Papua New Guinea for six years and the Solomon Islands. Rob also worked in Washington DC for the Department of the Interior for almost three years before working overseas. Rob worked as the Director of Community Development and Planing in Gardner for 22 years. He played an important role in getting the City of Gardner a new Police Station. He worked as the head of the Gardner Redevelopment Authority, served on the Gardner Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, Massachusetts Economic Development Council, Selectman for one year in the Town of Templeton, and Templeton Town Moderator for 12 years.

Rob was named the 2012 Gardner Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the year. He was a life member of the Otter River Sportsmans Club, and a long time member and moderator of the Memorial Congregational Church of Baldwinville.

Besides his wife Deborah, Rob will be missed by his brother in-law and sister in-law, Tom and Cheryl Flis, his aunt Mary Burks of Wisconsin, and many cousins in New England and Wisconsin.

Relatives and friends are planning to honor and celebrate Rob's life by gathering for calling hours in the Lamoureux Fletcher and Smith Funeral Home, 105 Central St., Gardner, on Thursday December 4, 2014 from 5-8PM. His funeral service will be held on Friday December 5, 2014 in the Memorial Congregational Church, Memorial St., Baldwinville beginning at 10AM. Burial in Greenlawn Cemetery, Baldwinville will be at a later date. Should friends desire, donations in Rob's memory may be made to the Memorial Congregational Church, PO Box 100, Baldwinville, MA 01436, or to the House of Peace and Education, 20 Barthel Ave. Gardner, MA 01440.

    1. It is rare when a man from a little town like Otter River could go out in the world and accomplish so much, and then return home to his community to do good work here also. It is said that behind a great man is a greater woman. Bob was never far from his wife, who I am sure was the foundation for the great things her husband did. I have seen them together thru the years, and you could tell they had a great relationship, or partnership that has endured the ups and downs of life. To Deborah, I am sorry for your loss. May the memory of the great years you had with Bob sustain you through the days ahead. Bev.
