Look at question 3, which passed at Town meeting, the voters said NO, they had not been convinced of the need, the price, whatever. So later on down the road, a loader gets bought out of the Town's road money. Does anyone think the voters are happy about that? One thing comes to mind, What part of no do you not get? The voters will need assurance, convincing along with lots of explaining if they are to vote yes for anything road or highway other than CDBG funding and work, which is probably how roads will get repaired, in blocks and in years at a time. Highway has about 6 weeks to take the bull by the horns and convince voters.

  1. When the rubber meets the road, no highway department in existence can accomplish anything without equipment. Standing in the voting booth, I don't think people put two and two together, like how can a truck get loaded without a loader ? You can't use a teaspoon, or a shovel. Votes like the one Jeff has referenced, have been all to common in our Town of Templeton, yet when the roads are slippery, or not plowed, these may be the first people who need to get to work and can't understand why the road does not look like Rt.2. Putting a question like buying a piece of equipment on the ballot, does not make much sense to me, because the majority of voters have no idea of what is needed by a department vs what the department already has, or the shape the equipment is in. Does a department like Light and Water ask for nice new equipment ? Those decisions are made by the Commissioners. I think the decisions about equipment should be made by the Selectmen, with the input from the department head and Town Administrator. Bev.

  2. OK, and how many time did we vote no on teh school budget yet our taxes have increased to pay for something I voted no for at least 3 times in one year. Oh, we also paid for each vote too so Templeton citizens get screwed in every direction.

We have 10,000 people in Templeton and Phillipston and a $19 million dollar school budget. Thats $1900 dollars for every man woman and child in those towns. How are we suppose to afford these costs. I know the funding isn't "all from templeton/phillipston but how can we be required to spend more than we could possible afford.

The schools budget to manage approx 1700 kids is 36 times the size of the actual towns budget.

Something needs to be done. When I'm paying $400 a month in Real Estate taxes and less than $11 (2.6% or what 500,000 is to 19 million) goes to the town...(simplistic I know, but illustrating a point) something is wrong and will not survive.

It's time to change this style of government to one that functions. The School cannot run the town or it will ruin the town.

  3. Puffy,
You know the rule! Contact Mr. Smart.

Another way to look at funding the school, is that any increase in Templeton's assessment over 2.5 % should go for an override.
