Do suggestions equal bullying?

Recently I forwarded an article from the statehouse news that I receive on a daily basis from Beacon Hill. Quite a few select boards are on the same "mailing" lists. The subject of the one I sent to the blog was concerning Gov Patrick making a "robocall" to teachers and the Massachusetts Teachers Association. He was asking for their support and help with getting his budget proposal passed concerning education and transportation. One of the things he referred to was the use of post cards with the MTA sending out cards to teachers who would fill them out and mail them to their respective state reps. So I suggested in that blog that perhaps teachers and the MTA / teachers union could flip that and use the same process to ask their state reps to fund all the state mandates placed on local schools and teachers so local funds could be used to buy things such as new text books.
It would after all be for the kids. Apparently someone who posted anonymously of course posed the question is Mr. Bennett bulling the teachers and school dept. My first reaction was to laugh and ask myself "are you kidding, can you be serious"? Posing a question or making a suggestion is turned around to be a bullying issue now? So if we use that logic or lack thereof, are taxpayers and elected officials just support to sit and watch from the sidelines like a bump on the ole log? My next thought was when teachers, and the superintendent come before the select board and tell us they need an override or else this and that will have to be cut and the kids will suffer so we need your support to get this override passed, is that the school dept bullying the selectmen? When the school dept tells the taxpayers that if the override is not passed your children will not have this or that, is that bullying the taxpayers? My answer of course is no it is not! It is simple people and or organizations presenting their side of an issue and giving and idea or ideas on how to proceed with it. What would happen if all of the teachers in Massachusetts went to the press and made the case the state needs to fund state mandates? What would happen if all the teachers contacted their respective state reps and told them the state needs to fund the state mandates. If the message came from all teachers that local funds will not and cannot fund the state mandates, what would the governor and the state legislature do? I certainly do not consider it to be bullying to offer up suggestions that I feel will at least bring attention to an issue and perhaps at least get a dialog going on how to correct it. I would be interested in what the bloggers have to say on this.

  1. Unfunded mandates, whether federal or state, are just shifts in burden or responsibilities.

Distractions abound in education and elsewhere. Most teachers are too busy contemplating the ramifications of the new teacher evaluations and the requirements of RETELL to take much notice of unfunded mandates. While you're at it add on some more changes in protocol to keep kids safe. In your spare time, you might want to try to teach.

sorry...it's late and I'm trying to balance my checkbook. Not a good combination.

  2. if i'm correct, carols said thet "bulling" was the reason she could not be "amorous" with her husband !!!! sued that town and won $$!!!! don't worry for him, he is not missing a thing, to busy trying to screw the WHOLE TOWN!!!! AGAIN !!!!! as a man 1/2 my age, but twice as smart said, "if at first you don't bankrupt the town, try, try again"!!!!! i guess having town employees working 8.75% time for 8.75% pay isn't enough !!!!!

  4. Here's another unfunded state mandate coming:
State 'gender identity' rules raise questions at some schools

Any idea how Denise Andrews voted on this bill? Never mind.

The zealots at DESE don't care if your daughter is uncomfortable sharing a locker room with an " anatomical male".

    1. Bullying is when Echo Hills pet bull dog goes after Mr. Ritter for something he has no idea about. Byllying is when the pet bull dog goes after Bud for sanding too much, during a selectmen's meeting. If a car load of kids die, who's heart and head is it going to be on?? Bullying is when sent by Echo hill, the pet bulldog goes after Dave for handing out political papers on a friday afternoon. OH, Guess what?? It was on his time off and in his own truck. That does not matter, the bulldog, takes her orders, and off she goes to do her job. During a selectmen's meeting she will stall when asked to change wording of a article. Julie proposed it, but she must do her job and check with Echo Hill first. I really hope they throw her a bone. My thoughts and opinions, Bev.

    2. Thanks for this article Mr. Barrieau. I agree with Mr. Erhard. Common sense has gone out the window in this society!!! Who the hell is going to enforce this ruling (another burden on the teachers so they can't teach without an extra policing task) & how the H are they going to know who is telling the truth as to their "real" feelings. This is a bunch of further liberal crap that is bogging our whole society & school system down. As if our youth are not confused enough. I am sorry for those who have a gender identity crisis but this belongs in private therapy & should not be thrust on the rest of the students, as another highly contentious social experiment that is sure to have untold serious consequences that haven't even begun to surface yet. Many children "temporarily identify" with the opposite sex as they are growing & learning about life. It is a sound solid basis that helps them grow firmly without throwing something like this into the already tough mix!! Just my opinion observing a nation of flipping liberals gone wild. This country is heading for that fall mighty quick if we don't smarten up soon!!
