Quick update on 5/27/14/ BOS Meeting

Quick update on 5/27/14/ BOS Meeting

After the pledge, a moment of silence was held for John Davis.

Bob Markel presented the Town Administrator Report
The highlights include: The sale of foreclosed properties on Thursday May 29th; bid opening for 252 Baldwinville Rd; and beginning talks with TMLWP to discuss vendor warrants, payroll services, dispatch services a PILOT payment or in kind service. These talks will continue on June 10th.

A common victualler license was approved and signed for the Great Wall of China on 5 Central St. in Baldwinville.

The BOS formally accepted the bids for East Templeton for the boiler and roof. It is good to see this project continue.

Many one-day liquor and entertainment licenses were approved for Otter River Sportsmen’s Club.

Bids were opened for 252 Baldwinville Rd. Two bids were received. One bid for $35,000 and another bid for $175,000. After debate on the merits of these bids, the BOS voted to accept the highest bidder. The town does not have the resources to rehab this building. The consensus was to take the financial loss and put the building back on the tax roll.

The second round of interviews was held for Town Administrator. Both finalists Fred Ventresco and Ed MacDonald made thoughtful presentations to the BOS. These interviews will be aired on Channel 8 as part of this BOS meeting.

Discussion was held on making Memorial St a one-way street. The addition of the sidewalk as part of the new road configuration has left no room for parking if Memorial St. remains a two way street. There will be hearing to gather formal input from the residents of the area before Memorial St. becomes a one-way road. Both the police chief and the fire chief spoke in favor.

The BOS re-affirmed the authority given to the tax title custodian (Holly). Holly will handle the disposition of tax title properties to be auctioned on Thursday.

The BOS discussed the plans to move to East Templeton. Volunteers (who signed waivers) worked last Saturday to prepare some of the rooms on the first floor for painting. The administrative tasks of room configuration and phone service were handed over to Bob Markel.  We will need more volunteers to help! 1. I am relieved to see the roof on the new Town Hall is going to be replaced. If it was not for the work of David Smart, Jeff Bennett, and Will Spring the building would not be in the shape it is in, pretty good for it's age. The tarps did the trick, but a new roof has been needed for a good long time. I am glad to see Rick Bankowski bid on the boiler. It is good to keep the money in town. Bev.
