LEICESTER - To date, 33 people have expressed an interest in
the town administrator’s job, and as many as 40 applicants are expected
by the deadline Friday.
The Board of Selectmen received a written update Monday night from Community Paradigm Associates of Plymouth, the consulting firm charged with managing the search for a new town administrator.
In July, Town Administrator Kevin Mizikar left his position in Leicester to become town manager of Shrewsbury. Selectmen appointed James Purcell as the interim administrator on a part-time basis, 20 hours per week, through Dec. 1 or until a new person is hired.
Mr. Purcell was a former administrator for Leicester and has worked on an interim basis in several towns since his retirement.
The consultant said a position profile was created after meetings with town department heads, search committee members and selectmen, and that this job description was distributed to potential candidates, those who have expressed interest in applying and others identified via personal outreach.
The position has been advertised in more than a dozen outlets, including the Massachusetts Municipal Association, International City and County Management Association, Harvard School of Government, and city and town manager associations in Rhode Island and Connecticut.
The town’s search committee will get a list of up to a dozen candidates to review. That field will be narrowed to three to five finalists for selectmen to interview.
Selectmen had no discussion about the update.
In other business, the board approved creating two part-time assistant positions in the Police Department. The job involves routine clerical work, record keeping, data processing and manning the service window in the lobby, among other duties. Each position is 18 hours per week and the hourly salary is $16.
Also, Lisa Wall and Dorothy Dudley were reappointed to the Finance Advisory Board.

So, how many places has our Town advertised for the position of Town Administrator ??
ReplyDeleteThey told you at the BOS meetings Bev!
ReplyDeleteIf anyone was interested and found out about the AC issues it would be harder to fill out the app. We don't even get people with qualifications for the two highway jobs posted.
Ever wonder why none want to. Pay scale? Benefits? conditions?
AC members wanting to take a hatchet to the pay and hours worked.
We can't get a town Administrator like other town due to the towns condition. The AC condition with oml violations and not to mention the name calling by the non adult acting committee members. Just watch the meeting like lil jefie has you'll see
