All regular and special meetings of the School Committee shall be open to the public. Executive sessions will be held only as prescribed by the Statutes of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

The School Committee desires citizens of the District to attend its meetings so that they may become better acquainted with the operations and the programs of our local public schools. In addition, the Committee would like the opportunity to hear the wishes and ideas of the public.

In order that all citizens who wish to be heard before the Committee have a chance and to ensure the ability of the Committee to conduct the District's business in an orderly manner, the following rules and procedures are adopted:

1. At the start of each regularly scheduled School Committee meeting, individuals or group representatives will be invited to address the Committee.  The Chairperson shall determine the length of the public participation segment.
    
2. Speakers will be allowed three (3) minutes to present their material.  The presiding Chairperson may permit extension of this time limit.
    
3. Topics for discussion must be limited to those items listed on the School Committee meeting agenda for that evening.
    
4. Improper conduct and remarks will not be allowed.  Defamatory or abusive remarks are always out of order.  If a speaker persists in improper conduct or remarks, the Chairperson may terminate that individual’s privilege of address.
    
5. All remarks will be addressed through the Chairperson of the meeting.
    
6. Speakers may offer such objective criticisms of the school operations and programs as concern them, but in public session the Committee will not hear personal complaints of school personnel nor against any member of the school community.  Under most circumstances, administrative channels are the proper means for disposition of legitimate complaints involving staff members.
    
7. Written comments longer than three (3) minutes may be presented to the Committee before or after the meeting for the Committee members’ review and consideration at an appropriate time."

JAMA Study Author Speaks in New Video Interview

On Tuesday, Medpage Today held a live Facebook interview with the lead author of the recent U.S. government-funded JAMA Pediatrics Mother-Offspring study. The study linked prenatal exposure to fluoride with lower IQ for the offspring of women living in optimally fluoridated” Canadian cities.  Rivka Green, MA, a doctoral student in clinical developmental neuropsychology at York University in Canada, answered questions, clarified misconceptions, refuted criticisms, and provided an in-depth look at her research during this captivating 45-minute video interview.

Critical statements from the interview included Ms. Green pointing out that the researchers found…

“…there was no safe level” of fluoride exposure during pregnancy.

While the study looked at total fluoride intake from all sources, she revealed that

for pregnant women, “60-80% of their fluoride consumption came from fluoridated water,”

clearly implicating the practice as the primary contributor to the outcome.

Green also put the level of harm into perspective, drawing numerous parallels to lead and stating that 14% of the women in a fluoridated region have a urinary fluoride level of 1mg/liter or higher–the amount that reduced IQ by an average of 4.5 points–equating to tens-of-thousands of Canadians and hundreds-of-thousands of Americans.

When asked about the differences found in boys versus girls when looking at urinary fluoride levels, Green pointed out that greater sensitivity to neurotoxins in males was a common – even expected – result found in neurotoxicity research on both humans and animals, but that the difference in IQ loss disappeared when looking at the mother’s accumulative fluid intake.  She suggested that this result was most likely due to post-natal exposure, primarily from consuming formula reconstituted with fluoridated water.  Such exposure spared no sex from cognitive impairment.

Towards the end of the interview, a pro-fluoridation propagandist asked Green if she would recommend pregnant women to avoid fluoridated water.  Green responded, “we do recommend…the precautionary principle here..to reduce fluoride intake during pregnancy,” adding that “While there is no potential benefit to the fetus, there is potential risk.”

The vote on the amendment passed with YES -122  NO - 76 at 7:52 pm.

The amended motion passed at  YES - 119  NO- 74 at 7:54 pm

The idea that Templeton BOS should ask for a lower override amount is insane. Templeton voted an override last year in part to fund and keep Fire/EMS levels to maintain ALS. What will be cut if the School committee number stands - public safety. Why would any Templeton voter vote for an override, when the school district will come in and demand that money as well next year?

New Study Suggests Fluoride Lowers Children’s IQ

Fears of fluoride in drinking water can no longer be dismissed as a crank conspiracy theory

The research continues to accumulate: Fluoride exposure harms the brain and reduces IQ.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention considers community water fluoridation one of the ten greatest public health achievements of the 20th century. The view of U.S. regulatory agencies has also been the dominant view of the medical community. Have these long-held beliefs stood the test of scientific rigor?

It has already been established that fluoride crosses the placenta, and laboratory studies show that it accumulates in brain regions involved in learning and memory and alters proteins and neurotransmitters in the central nervous system.

Now, a recent study is the first to estimate fluoride exposure in a large birth cohort receiving optimally fluoridated water. Published in the journal JAMA Pediatrics, the study has forced many to re-examine the practice of water fluoridation. Funded by the Canadian government and the U.S. National Institute of Environmental Health Science, the new study, titled “Association Between Maternal Fluoride Exposure During Pregnancy and IQ Scores in Offspring in Canada,” examined the association between fluoride exposure during pregnancy and the IQ scores of the children at ages 3 and 4 years old.

The scientists assessed fluoride exposure in two separate ways. They measured fluoride in women’s urine samples during pregnancy while also calculating fluoride consumption based on how much is in a city’s water supply and how much women recalled drinking.

The study found that of the 512 mother–child pairs, a 1-mg/L increase in maternal urinary fluoride was associated with a 4.49-point lower IQ score in boys.

The study’s authors concluded:

“Maternal exposure to higher levels of fluoride during pregnancy was associated with lower IQ scores in children aged 3 to 4 years. These findings indicate the possible need to reduce fluoride intake during pregnancy.”

Perhaps sensing the potential blowback from publishing the recent Canadian study in JAMA Pediatrics, the journal’s Editor-in-Chief Dimitri Christakis provides an editor’s note to accompany the study: “This decision to publish this article was not easy. Given the nature of the findings and their potential implications, we subjected it to additional scrutiny for its methods and the presentation of its findings.”

Christakis said during a recent JAMA Pediatrics Editors Summary podcast, “For me before there were ‘anti-vaxers’ there were sort of ‘anti-fluoriders.’” He shared that while he was going through residency, the traditional teaching he received was that “fluoride is completely safe. All these people that are trying to take it out of the water are nuts.”

He commented about the recent study’s findings, saying they were “sizable” and “on par” with the IQ drops seen in children exposed to lead. When Christakis was asked what he would recommend as a pediatrician if a pregnant mother came into his office, he said, “I would advise them to drink bottled water.”

Outlets like NPR and others covered the study. For those who have followed the hard science placing in question the practice of water fluoridation, the recent JAMA Pediatrics study is just another data point along an increasingly clear trajectory.

The pharmaceutical industry is now the most poorly regarded industry in Americans' eyes, ranking last on a list of 25 industries that Gallup tests annually. Big Pharma has unseated the federal government who has been last or tied for last from 2011 through 2018*

A New Low for the Pharmaceutical Industry's Image

Americans' net ratings for the pharmaceutical industry have never been lower since Gallup first polled on industries in 2001. Over the past 19 years, few industries have been rated lower than the pharmaceutical industry's current -31 net rating. These include the federal government and the oil and gas, real estate, and automobile industries.

Some have come to the pharmaceutical industry's aid saying that their benevolent missions of increasing life spans, fighting disease and saving lives should be the focus rather than internet-based misinformation and misconceptions. Yet the industry has several legitimate scandals, self-inflicted wounds and openly criminal acts for the blame to fall squarely upon their shoulders.

The list of issues fueling the American distaste for Big Pharma has been growing for sometime. 

Criticisms from charging the highest drug costs in the world, to spending massive amounts in lobbying politicians, the industry's role in the U.S. opioid crisis, its role in expansive mandatory vaccine policy and censorship of debate surrounding it and the nonstop revolving door between government and industry have all impacted the current sentiment.

According to OpenSecrets, the research group tracking money in U.S. politics, in 2018 the pharmaceutical/health products industry spent a record $283.4M on lobbying efforts. In the same year, the sector reported 1,461 lobbyists - which amounts to over two lobbyists for every member of Congress. Did Big Pharma spend such record amounts on lobbying in 2018 because they saw early indicators that public favor towards their industry was tanking?

It's no stretch of the imagination to see why Big Pharma has lost the hearts and minds of America. 

The public has endured over twenty years of a society-gutting opioid epidemic caused largely by drug manufacturers. OxyContin-maker Purdue Pharma is currently facing bankruptcy from the weight of exponentially growing legal challenges for their role in causing the opioid crisis. In 2001 the FDA relabeled the powerful opioid for an "extended period of time" without adequate scientific evidence or studies. Former FDA commissioner Dr. David Kessler, one of the few FDA heads of decades past who didn't go on to work for industry, told CBS News in a 2019 interview, "We don't know whether the drugs are safe and effective for chronic use…The rigorous kind of scientific research the agency should be relying on is not there."

Radar reports people have been enjoying drones, fireworks, video games, plastic straws, saturated fats, milk, rain water, hunting rifles, free speech, the Second Amendment, plastic bags, and feeding homeless people. These and many other dangerous freedoms were quickly targeted by lawmakers.

"It's amazing when I look at this printout every morning and notice how much freedom there still is out there despite our best efforts," said one congressman. "There is much work to be done."
