GARDNER — It’s October and that means it is National Fire Prevention Month and one local hardware store is doing what it can spread the word about fire prevention.

In collaboration with the Gardner Fire Department, Aubuchon Hardware will be holding an event to broadcast the importance of fire safety.

“We’re trying to raise awareness of fire safety within the community,” said Scott Kulesza, store manager of Aubuchon Hardware in Gardner.

The main part of the parking lot in front of the store will be blocked off to allow for the Fire Department to set up its fire engine and table and to allow for guests to have ample room to walk around and ask any questions they would like.

Inside the store, customers can spin a prize wheel after each purchase and win a number of prizes -– store discounts, a free pair of work gloves, a free gift card, and many other prizes.

If the weather permits, a bounce house will be available for the kids to jump in and a game of Monster Basketball (an oversized inflatable basketball and hoop) can be played.

At noon, Boy Scout Troop 9 will be grilling hot dogs for guests for free. Any donations made will go directly to the troop.

“We really want to give back to the community by doing this,” stated Mr. Kulesza.

First Alert, an American safety brand company, teamed up with the W.E. Aubuchon Co. Inc. a few years ago, hosting events at other store locations. When approached this year at the Gardner location, Mr. Kulesza jumped at the opportunity.

Two firefighters will be there to discuss fire safety and prevention in honor of their Student Awareness of Fire Education program.

Any and all who want to learn about fire safety and prevention are invited to come down to Aubuchon Hardware on Saturday, Oct. 3, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The store is located in the Gardner Plaza Shopping Center, 34 Pearson Blvd.
