Templeton,
Week in Review
August 1, 2016

Monday August 1, 2016 -
Hubbardston received a $1,000,000  dollar state grant to pave some roads. Someday Templeton, someday such a grant might happen here.

It rained! Still no water ban here in Templeton! We must be extra special.

Tuesday August 2, 2016 -
The John LeClerc Memorial Wind Turbine 5K gets some front page news.

Phillipston has created a new committee to determine how various town employees should be paid. What a concept! One wonders if the Phillipston selectmen are going to make the determination on salary and compensation BEFORE they hand out raises?

Wednesday August 3, 2016-
The Templeton Board of Selectmen hire Carter Terezini as Templeton's interim town administrator. Edward J. Collins Center for Public Management at UMass Boston was selected to perform the search for a permanent town administrator. At what meeting did those votes happen?

Otter River State Forest adds a new $80,000 basketball court to attract more people to this beautiful area.

Thursday August 4, 2016-
The Templeton Advisory Committee has asked to be placed on the Templeton BOS' agenda (August 8, 2016) to discuss setting a date for the fall special town meeting. At issue for FY 17 is a shortfall in funding and the need to amend line items to bring the FY 17 budget into balance.

Revenue has been overestimated at about $65,000  and over $55,000 has been distributed in raises and only $35,000 was budgeted for said raises.

In addition, the $820,000 to $1,000,000 shortfall from FY 13 needs to be addressed. Of concern is that the Advisory committee members say taxpayers could be looking at tax increases of as much as $22/$1,000 by the year 2020.

The Templeton Council on Aging receives a donated 2006 Toyota Scion which will be used to transport seniors to appointments in Worcester and Boston. The Scion gets much better mileage than the COA vans.

Friday August 5, 2016 -
Plans are well under way to put Scout Hall to good use. Scout Hall in East Templeton is listed on the National Register of Historic Buildings (making it eligible for CPC funds). Possible re-use for Scout hall include a drop in center for teens.
No mention of funds to run and operate the building. No mention of the looming $1,000,000 deficit from FY 13.

In other news, the kitchen at the Senior Center will soon be refurbished. Grant funds in the amount of $15,000 plus the proceeds from the Mac & Cheese Festival will enable the kitchen to be finished.

Rep. Zlotnik from Gardner has filed legislation to restrict sex offenders from playing games such as Pokemon Go.

  1. I thought I saw a map in the Telegram that showed Templeton having a water ban. Maybe I was wrong.
