Patrons look over the items up for sale during Saturday’s Narragansett Craft Fair in Templeton.

TEMPLETON — Crafters from across New England packed into Narragansett Regional High School on Saturday for the 35th Narragansett Craft Fair hosted by the Phillipston Memorial Elementary School.

Organizer Kathy Olsen said she was pleased with the turnout. All of the proceeds from the event will go toward the Phillipston Parent Teacher Group.

“This is our 35th fair, and we are already booking for next year,” she said. “This year was our record year for vendors. It was an amazing turnout.”

The parent teacher group funds Secret Santa for Christmas, brings in programs to enrich the science curriculum, helps to fund field trips and arranges for other activities such as a September visit from an author to begin a writers’ workshop for students.

The Phillipston school includes children from kindergarten through fourth grade. Ms. Olsen said it is her second year running the craft fair, and she received help and advice from previous coordinator Elizabeth Bond.

“We like to work together as a team,” said Ms. Olsen. “She is still here and still volunteers. If I need help or hit a wrinkle, she is still there.”

The setup of the community event brings both parents and teachers together for the betterment of the school.

“We have teachers here today, and we had teachers here last night helping to set up. All of our teachers help,” said Ms. Olsen.

The event has grown significantly each year, and a range of items were available to patrons, including candy, jewelry, poetry, wood crafts and holiday decorations. Auctions and raffles were held, and refreshments were served.

“We had 85 vendors here this year,” said Ms. Olsen. “I had to turn some away because of course, I had no room. I want the news out there. I want it bigger next year because it’s for our kids.”
