Plan B - New School

Plan B - New School

There were three RFP's ( Request for Proposals) for land upon which to build a new elementary school.

There is special legislation to use land at the TDC.

The Templeton Center site was selected because it was supposed to be a "placeholder" so the project could keep moving forward.

Now the proposal is to shoehorn a three story building on the Templeton Center Site that is just too small.

The town owned property in Otter River was home to an elementary school for quite a few years.

When this site in Otter River was mentioned at numerous Templeton Elementary School Building Committee Meetings as a possible building site, committee members were told "That site is too small! MSBA would never approve a site that small!"

The site in Otter River is twice the size of the site at Templeton Center and has town water and sewer access. It is a fairly level parcel of land.

When the Senior Center was looking for land, they looked at the parcel in Otter River. The selectmen had a meeting with the family who controls that parcel of land. At that time, the family was amenable to allow a senior center to be built on that property.

This site is just shy of 8.5 acres. So, why is this site unacceptable to MSBA? Has any attempt been made to contact the family who holds the deed restriction?

  1. Wouldn't it be great to not have to tear down a good usable building not to mention paying to tear it down.
Wouldn't it be great to not have to find/create/a place to school the kids that will need to be moved to build in Templeton center.
Wouldn't it be great to not have to spend money to change roads and intersections needlessly like in Templeton center.
Wouldn't it be great to not have to disrupt the center of Templeton to gamble on the idea that a school of this size will fit and function.
Wouldn't it be great if we were told the truth about the money to do all the things listed above.
Wouldn't it be great if we didn't spend money we don't have on things we don't need to spend "borrowed" money on.
Wouldn't it be great to just leave the Templeton center commons the way they are and not have to tar them to use for cars to park.
    Wouldn't it be great?

  3. So if the value of the home or business went up the amount we were told it cost us for the new school has changed also.
The bottom line is we are being told what we need to hear to just pass the project.
