For the 29th year, several state parks in Massachusetts will offer free, guided hikes on New Year's Day.

The Department of Conservation and Recreation’s First Day Hikes program started at Blue Hills Reservation in the Town of Milton in 1992.

This year, 13 hikes will be offered by the park system on Wednesday. The hikes will average 1 or 2 miles in length and be led by park staff, officials said.
