Hubbardston Gets $1M Grant To Fix Road

BOSTON — State Sen. Anne M. Gobi, D-Spencer, and state Rep. Donald R. Berthiaume, R-Spencer, announced Friday that the town of Hubbardston will be receiving $1 million through the MassWorks Infrastructure grant program.

The grant funding will be used for the re-paving of Old Westminster Road.

Years of deterioration have left stretches of this vital roadway so deteriorated that at times they proved difficult or dangerous to drive over. Additionally, flooding is prominent during heavy rainfall and the uneven surface makes plowing the road close to impossible. This project will make the road safer to drive on and easier to maintain.

“I am pleased that the strong partnership between the town and state is continuing,” said Sen. Gobi. “Hubbardston is dedicated to improving Public Safety and infrastructure and every penny is spent wisely.”

"Great job by the town of Hubbardston in applying for and receiving this grant," said Rep. Berthiaume.

The MassWorks Infrastructure Program provides a one stop shop for municipalities and other eligible public entities seeking public infrastructure funding to support housing production, economic development, and job creation through strategic investments in public infrastructure.

Each year, the program allocates 10 percent of the awarded funds to assist municipalities with populations of 7,000 or less in completing roadway safety and transportation improvement projects. The MassWorks Program has invested over $357 million across the state since the first competitive grant round was held in September 2011.
