The average salary for a teacher in Massachusetts is just under $79,000, one of the highest state averages in the nation.

Data from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education shows great variance in salaries across districts. The lowest three pay under $50,000, on average. The highest five pay above $100,000.

Salaries are commensurate with work and educational experience.

Below is a look at the lowest paying public school districts across the state during the 2016-2017 school year.
