Another new small business in town

I just got my Mass. State shiner trapping and selling license and have opened up a native shiner bait shop, (Steve`s shiner shop), in my garage at 213 Hubbardston RD. this week. A sign is out at the road in front of my garage. As far as I know I am the only one selling native shiners in the area. I am open Mon - Sat 3PM to 8 PM. Although I will be open at the time I stated and since my garage is separate from my house, I am suggesting that any one interested in buying shiners call me at 978-895-0620 before coming over so as to be sure I will be in the garage to help them. Tooting the horn in the drive way should also get my attention. I will not be open before 3 PM so I suggest buying shiners the evening before the next days ice fishing.
Native Red Fin Shiners are much more productive and active to fish with and I sell all sizes for the same price per dozen. . Customers get an assortment of sizes, small to medium large, to fish with.

RED FLAGS UP AND TIGHT JIGGING LINES TO ALL YOU ICE FISHERMAN
STEVE

If anyone has a local small business they would like to promote please forward the info....'ll gladly post it. Pauly

PS hey Steve is the ice safe?

  1. The small bodies of water have 5 to 6 inches, like Mosehorn, Candlelight Bringham, etc. and are safe. There are fishermen on Queen Lake, Comet, Mattawa, Rohunter and most all of the bigger lakes, but be carefull and chisel test holes the further you go out. This weekend is going to be wet and above freezing so be careful. Hopefully we won`t lose to much ice and cold weather will return next week.
Although I said my hours are Mon - Sat 3 to 8 PM, as long as I`m home Ill be open and there will be an open sign on my garage when I am.
Thanks Pauly, I apreciate you putting this on the blog.
    Steve

  2. I am so glad to have another business in town. I will tell every one I know. Years ago we would spend a whole day fishing. The kids were young and spent the day chasing flags. When the sun is out and there is no wind, it is a great way to spend a day. Bev.

  3. Thanks a bunch Rick, for telling your son and his friend about my shiner shop. They were here for some shiners and I hope they knuckle the fish at Candlelight pond this morning. When the weather is overcast it is usually good fishing.

  5. I`m telling everybody, besides my reg. hours, if I`m home I`m open, like this morning. I have a good size OPEN sign on the front of my garage when I`m home. If the open sign is on the garage and I`m not in the garage, toot the horn or call my cell 978-985-0620 and I`ll come out of the house to help.
They thought the shiners look good and lively and were suprised at how many I had in the tanks. They kept jumping out of the fish tank and bait bucket as we tried to net them. hee, hee

  6. If you are going to use this blog to promot business in town should you be sure that the business you are promoting complies with all local laws and has all local permits, I wonder if he pulled a permit for the sign at the end of Hubbarston rd, also what about the new sign at the end of his driveway that would require a permit, Also if you are in a residential neighborhood with zoning as such any alteration to your business would require a special permit, his cleaning businesss is grandfathered but any addition to the business that is not cleaning related would require a special permit. Hence the shiner business is not cleaning related so it would be required to get a special permit. Also what about the chemical based water that he discharges from the back of his truck everyday after his cleanings wouldnt that again require a discharge permit, but I would think that chemical based wated would be required to be dumped at the waste water treatment plant.

    4. He needs to go to building inspector first and yes it does require a special permit it is a change of use goes back to the same thing all in who you know to what you can get away with in this town. And you are correct he does do cleaning jobs at other locations but he does bring the waste chemical water home and dump it out at the end of his driveway I have watched him do this myself. He should be required to discharge chemical dirty water at treatment plant.

    5. FYI First of all Steve ,you may want to check with the building inspector about the shinner business and if he feels it warrants a permit or not .As far as a change of use A-6:40 is wrong .[ UNLESS YOU SWIM WITH THE FISHES } if anything it would be allowed under the minor home occupation bylaw . This is allowed by right .If you have any questions give me a call

    6. Thank you Kirk. I will check with the B I and after he hears about my State licensed, seasonal, (10 week) small minnow trapping and supplying endever. Which I have been doing for over 30 years, every ice fishing season for my fishing friends the local ice fishermen. He then should be satisfied that I don`t have a year round thriving bait and tackle store that rivals Dick`s or John`s Sporting Good stores.
I use to trap shiners at your Dad`s pond in back of his house years ago. remenber? I have been dooing this for a ling time.
I don`t know who that anonyomus is making all the comments, but if you don`t have anything better to do, move out of town and get a life and stop harrasing life long senior residents of Templeton. It could really come back to bite you.

  8. Why don't you go ask your dear friend Carol Skelton if her "antiques" business has all the proper permits and if she pays taxes on her sales. And while you're asking her all these questions, why don't you ask her where she gets her inventory from.

    1. Excellent questions!
Does Echo Hill Antiques have a business license?
Does she pay taxes on her cash business?

  9. when echo hill started the "permanent yard sale" Carol S was town coordinator and Jerry was Chairman of the BOS, was the building inspector going to risk loosing his job by saying Carol you have to go for a site plan review and get a building permit and make sure your handicapped assessible etc. NO of course not. that's why he never said anything bad about 252 Baldwinville Rd, he would have lost his job and that's the same reason why Mr Koouce (concom agent) had to say that John B's land was not good for a school. and if you all are so worried about steve L's minnows has anyone noticed (and complained) that 101 storage is now selling quilts, UGG boots, North face jackets etc. not exactly the storage business.
