Special Town meeting

Again I want to remind everyone that there is a
SPECIAL TOWN MEETING
FRIDAY JULY 26TH 7:00PM
NARRAGANSETT MIDDLE SCHOOL  AUDITORIUM

PLEASE NOTE THIS IS THE ONLY VOTE THAT WILL TAKEN FOR THE SCHOOL TO GET THE ENTIRE AMOUNT OF THEIR BUDGET THAT WAS CERTIFIED BY THE SCHOOL COMMITTEE INCLUDING THE ADDITIONAL $691,000.00 THAT WAS VOTED DOWN BY THE VOTERS AS AN OVERRIDE IN APRIL AND JUNE. IF THIS PASSES AT THIS TOWN MEETING THERE WILL NOT BE A VOTE AT THE POLLS. THE TOWN WILL THEN HAVE TWO CHOICES - 1) GO BACK TO ANOTHER TOWN MEETING AND CUT $691,000.00 OUT OF THE TOWN BUDGETS - THIS MEANS POLICE, HIGHWAY, FIRE ETC. OR 2) GO FOR A TOWN OVERRIDE FOR THE AMOUNT THAT THE SCHOOL IS TAKING FROM THE TOWN. $691,000.00 AGAIN I SAY WHAT WAS ALREADY VOTED DOWN BY THE VOTERS - TWICE GET IT TWICE!

If this does not pass (a No vote) we can go back to the drawing board and work with the school to try to cut some from the school and some from the town. A NO vote will enable us to work with the school and save essential town services. Because let's face it  there is no way an override for the town will pass - if it didn't pass for the school what makes you people think it will pass for the town. Way too many people are broke!!!!

So spread the work - get out an attend the Special  Town Meeting - Friday July 26th 7pm NMS Auditorium. This is a very very very important issue!!!!

  1. The way I see things, the town has cut enough. The people who work in the town offices have already taken a 12% cut in their pay. Cut more? The where and how? On the town side, this will be more than interesting. From what I have seen, the school has not been willing to give one inch. For them, it is go for the whole pot and to hell with the town! Everyone tried to explain how things go, at last night's Selectman's Meeting. One young lady asked, "What was done with the rest of the money"? Rest of what money?? These young people do not understand, where we stand as a town! All they need to do is look up, to see the hole we are in, and the work that has been done to dig ourselves out. At this time I do not want to loose what we have gained, but it is up to the older people to come to this meeting, and vote. I sincerely hope by the time this problem is resolved, the younger generation, will invest some time in understanding how the whole town works, for when I am not here, it will be up to them to take over. Please talk to your friends, and neighbors, and explain the situation, and ask them to vote...Yes again!! Bev.

  2. The Gansett Greatness input was that there have been 18 teachers cut over the years. When asked how many were hired back the answer was i'm not sure.It would be a fact we should know prior to a vote. If the number of 18 teachers cut is a fact or false thing to say it should be known. Job count 3-4 years ago and now compare and see. Can the impact bargaining be a tool to use if the vote goes no. I think we need to think outside the box and find the facts when the quotes are thrown out like this. Forego a raise and see about the teachers ability to take a wage decrease to save fellow teacher jobs, you know for the kid sake.

    1. I think it is common practice to hand out pink slips, in the summer. when the school does not know how the money situation, will be. They will rehire these people, when school starts. So to tell you they cut people, that is right, but the answer you got, tells you this is not completely true.Bev.
