thought this was interesting. This was posted on a trail in NH.
The wind and earthquakes also can endanger the people under it. Others have fallen or tipped over in england and were put in a field so just the cows were in any danger. The 2 million dollar liability insurance would be used up quickly if it ever was needed to be used. G.E would not sell us a turbine due to the location for it to be installed. I guess that warning thing sliped by our commissioners! Another great job for the ratepayers,by the commission. We could have built a new school with what was spent/borrowed on the turbine that doesn't run. Shareholder Dave Smart
I would like to fill you in on the significance of this photo.
My friends, who live in the southeastern Mass town of Kingston, have had their lives turned upside down since last May, once their @MW wind turbine became operational.
Kingston is a "Green Community" (be careful what you wish for, a wolf in sheep's clothing to be sure!) and as such, was able to adopt "as of right" siting for wind turbine projects.
Over the last several years their Green Energy Committee was left to plan their wind projects...since Kingston had "as of right" siting no notification of neighbors was required! BOOM, seemingly out of nowhere, 4 industrial sized turbines were constructed. The turbines were all sited very close to residents homes, they transformed the landscape to a scene out of Tom Cruise's War of The Worlds!
One turbine was sited on an old capped landfill 475feet to a state highway AND amazingly 600 feet to the nearest homes (closer than the sign you see above is to the turbine in the picture located in Dixville Notch NH)
The significance of the above picture is that Kingston residents have been repeatedly assured that there are no safety hazards posed due to ice throw or blade malfunction. YET, out in the wilds of New Hampshire where there are no homes nearby the wind industry fully admits to the possible danger posed and posts a warning to cover themselves liability wise. The words CAN KILL do not connect at all with what Kingston residents have been told.
The residents of Kingston are engaged in an unfortunate and divisive battle as a result of the persistent excessive noise emitted by their 2MW turbine 600 feet to homes, in addition the strobing inside homes is unbelievable and disturbing...yet their BOH seems paralyzed by the threat of a law suit by the wind developer. A real Massachusetts mess!
As an added note, the Kingston meeting minutes also state that GE would not sell a turbine for the Kingston location due to liability issues. Too bad the pro wind crowd did not take heed of that information, they were too vested in the idea of wind no matter what residents had to become second class citizens as a result. The turbines all trespass on residents homes, BUT town officials are like deer in headlights, no one wants to right the wrong.
Meanwhile down the road apiece in Falmouth, Ma the selectmen fully supported a warrant article for the upcoming town meeting to REMOVE their turbines as a result of the public health disaster there. Sorry business all around.

It is interesting what you can learn when you go to the Light and Water meeting. For one thing it cost $35,000. to change the oil in the wind mill. It has not been changed since it went up. The men have been checking the oil and found bits of metal in the oil. Bart said it is normal for this to happen, but you usually have a magnet to catch them, in the gear box. The gears were checked and there is a space between them. It looks like they don't mesh correctly. When the turbine turns, the thing goes clunk, clunk. The turbine does not run right, and the cost to fix it is going to be huge. This is sad, because this should have been a good thing for town. This would have been at a time when we could have afforded to do something like this. There are so many things wrong with this whole picture, it makes my head spin, but I can tell you one thing, it will come out in the wash! Bev.
Its because the emergency number is for the turbine not for the people that may get hurt from it . the contact number could simply be for a repair contractor
The number connects you to XO communications landline in Marlbough in mass . They dispatch what the call is for to the service thats needed. Just as the sign "not" at gansett should read call to report a noise and or problem with ours! And maybe a warning about the hazards involved being close to it to? I make a motion to rename the wind turbine after Gerald P Skelton as he was the most qualified person in attendance when promoting our large lawn ornament.
Sounds good to me! It looks like this thing was dead from the time they put it up. All it needs is "last rights"! Our wind turbine is going to end up being the biggest screw up, he has managed to dump on the town. This is much worse than 252 Baldwinville Rd., because it is going to cost us a huge amount of money to keep it running, after the huge amount it will cost to get it fixed. I think it should be up to the taxpayers to decide what to do with the thing!! After all, it is our money!! Bev
I can vouch for the fact that the photograph is NOT photoshopped. The wind turbine is in Dixville NH, but the service techs are in Massachusetts.
I will also share with you all a story of interest out of New York (link below).
Perhaps Templeton, written into whatever arrangement/lease agreement/contract, you have in place there is a misrepresentation clause? Who approved your turbine permit? and on what "facts"?
In Kingston Mass the permits were approved on flawed pre-construction acoustical reports and flawed flicker/strobing "studies". There is currently a move to challenge the site plan permits...and this story out of New York sure helps to shed some light on what other communities are doing to deal with their "wind problems"

In Templeton's case, there was no town meeting vote to build the wind turbine. It was done by the commissionrers. I know, because I was on the Light and Water Commission at the time. Other commissioners and I tried to do our due diligence, but it appears to be a flawed project.

Oh, and 1 more thing...when it comes to decomissioning, I know Wind Wise Massachusetts is supporting several bills up on Beacon Hill.
1 of those bills is to create a fund using Mass Clean Energy Center funds to help communities de-commssion "problem" turbines. (Mass Clean Energy is the quasi state agency responsible for pushing wind projects in Mass without the proper health and safety assurances in place). Electric rate payers all over Mass have a surcharge on their electric bill (for those communities who have their own electric company not sure how that works) BUT many of us pay a surcharge each month to fund the Mass Clean Energy Center. They have $$$ in excess of 80 million dollars from what I understand, though I am no expert on that angle.
So, perhaps you might want to discuss with your state legislators supporting those bills that will seek to help defray the expense to local communities suffering wind related health, safety and financial issues (resulting from faulty mechanical parts such as gear boxes and bearings).
There is another piece of legislation championed by Cape Cod legislators to attach Mass CEC funds to help defray the cost of medical care and such that residents have had to expend to deal with their turbine induced health issues, such as sinus pain/pressure, cardiac arythmia, sleep deprivation, headaches, nausea...the true cost of wind power includes the expense of treating those who are suffering!
In the case of Fairhaven Mass 1 additional neighbor expense has been for the care of a veterinarian to treat a family's dog for recently diagnosed vertigo. Their dog kep falling down as if drunk! Can you imagine the impact of the noise on sensitive animals not to mention people who live nearby...these are the very types of impacts and expenses never discussed during the planning stage by those promoting wind power. Very Sad!
That stinks! You would think someone should be concerned, if it may hurt someone? Looks to me like these things should never be put near a neighborhood, never mind in one. There are some things people can never get used to. This may be one of them! Bev.
