Proposed FY 16 NRSD School Budget
Templeton has budgeted $5,230,328 assessment
as well as $431,969 debt service for a total of
$5,662,297
Templeton's total assessment increased 4.79% which the last time I checked is larger than 2.5 %. The difference between the town's draft budget and NRSD is $166,504.
Phillipston's increase is 2.3%
Templeton can not afford any increases over 2.5 % because we can only raise taxes 2.5% a year. Any department that increases their budget over 2.5% means a cut in some other town budget.
Julie Farrell voted NO on this budget based on the 4.79 % increase.
The total $18,999,030 NRSD FY 16 budget will be the recommendation to the NRSD School Committee.
It is believed there is a web site where the position of Librarian for NRHS district is being advertised. So if there are any positions within the district being advertised as being eliminated or cut due to budget reasons, any projected savings would or could be used up with the librarian position. Sort of a smoke and mirrors approach. This seems to be the same approach used for the bio mass or wood chip boiler system. Perhaps these will be covered at tomorrows school committee meeting.

ReplyDeleteat 11:26 a.m. today, huffy writes without a librarian a school will lose its accreditation so I checked the 2012 and 2013 annual town reports. Under the budget line, Instruction, I find library/media; a zero amount. Seems like the district has been without a librarian for a while so what has changed? This probably deserves the attention of the DESE.
ReplyDeletelisted on the agenda for Wednesday, 18 March (tomorrow night) is budget, bio mass update and update on elementary school.
